Suggestion, change the title from Lameweather to Mayweather so search is successful and people don't start alternate threads.

Anyone who misses the fight is a fool! Hell, anyone who misses the pressers with both attending is 2x fool.

I dunno man, it could be your normal shit show Lameweather fight.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if McGregor wins just to set up an even bigger payday for the rematch. When there's this much money involved, I don't trust anyone's integrity.

They should have made it a mixed-rules bout ala Shinya Aoki.

McGregor's boxing history is kind of unclear to me. I know there's a lot of hype about how he baffled high level boxers in a sparring setting, but I'm not convinced that will translate into being able to stymie one of the greatest boxers in history who himself is famous for being able to stymie his opponents. Still, I think he's got a much better chance than a vast majority of MMA fighters would given that he's been boxing since he was pretty young.

that was 4 years ago and Floyd has been partying the last 2

in the end, father time is undefeated

(i'm not saying it's likely, i'm just saying it's a possibility)

Mayweather took that long hiatus right before Juan Manuel Marquez too. Unless he completely stopped training and started living like a pig, which it doesn't look like it since he never drank or smoked even before, he's not going to have a problem.

He was 32 then. It's a little bit different when you're 40.

Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player of all time, now he gets beat by random people off the street.

I'm just saying that eventually age catches up with everyone. Has it caught Mayweather yet? We haven't seen him fight recently enough to know . . .

I understand why someone isn't a fan of Mayweather, but he's probably the best/quickest defensive boxer of all time. He's been relatively 'unhittable'. And while I haven't seen all of his top tier fights, I don't hear professionals disputing his win/loss record, particularly his past opponents. And he's beat some great fighters.

So whatever makes you pissy about Mayweather (maybe that knockout when Ortiz wasn't paying attention?), he's still been a fvcking dominant genius in the ring.

There are fights people feel he lost, I don't like boring defensive fighters like him, in either boxing or MMA.

Most people enjoy boxing because they like to watch people box. Most don't like to watch a waltz for 12 rounds. There are other, cheaper avenues for that.

All it takes is one good punch, and Mayweather is old. High-level athletes often fall off a cliff at 40. Odds are on Mayweather's side, but it's by no means over before it starts. There's really no telling what's going to happen, which makes it a watchable event.

Really, how much do you pay for your streams?

I don't watch streams. I also don't pay for Pay per view. I watch boxing when I have access to it, like when I have HBO or Showtime. That's it. I have neither right now, so I haven't seen a bout in maybe 3 months. Sometimes NBC has a strangely scheduled match and I catch it, but rarely.

Reminds me of Roy Jones Jr's precipitous decline. Jones would primarily use his speed as his defense. He eventually got old enough that he couldn't do that anymore. I think Mayweather has more defensive tools but eventually as you say his age will catch up with him and someone will clock him in the side of the head. Just not sure if we are there yet.

Lol it was like -1700 / +1100 when it opened. Morons betting on Conor changing the lines.

Yup, lines change so money gets spread between the 2 fighters, that's just how it works. I have bet on one sporting event ever at a casino. It was Lauzon vs Stout, they had Lauzon favored, I am like, uh nope Stout will win it. So I bet and won. It had nothing to do with the odds, I just felt they were wrong, but being the underdog worked out.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Is Fighting Conor McGregor. What The Beeping Beep?

Let’s address the elephant in the room. Does McGregor, who hasn’t had an actual boxing match since he was a teenager, have a shot at beating a past-his-prime great? Yes, he has a shot. McGregor hits really, really hard, and chins don’t get better with age.

. . .

McGregor is a dangerous, skilled MMA boxer with a hell of a punch, but he’s probably not good enough to beat a once-great boxer in the ring.

That’s really all the analysis the fight deserves.

I'm not an avid boxing fan in general (except following some individual fighters over the years), but am always surprised to see 'true boxing fans' not impressed by what Mayweather has done and how he's done it in the ring. It's not always sexy, even looks cowardly at time, but he's made an art out of defensive quickness and strategy (while still beating the crap out of his opponents enough to legitimately win all his bouts.) The personal side tho, I have no defense for those who despise him, but his skill set/execution is possibly like none before him.

That said, if I had to choose, I would spend my evening watching the PPV for Canelo/GGG than the sham fight between Mayweather/McGregor.

At earlier odds, smart money was on Conor, IMO. There was no return on Mayweather. If this were the Mayweather of ten or even five years ago, it would be a foregone conclusion...but it's not. Conor has a puncher's chance and greater RVR / ROI on earlier odds. Now, I wouldn't lay any money on this fight except just for the hell of it.
