I wonder how far Lansing is from West Lafayette, IN. Hmm I'll have to look into it.

Well according to Mapquest it is only a mere 284.44miles or about 4 hours and 58 min driving time. Could be out of the question to drive that far, but for a LAN party, most...including me, would do anything.

By unportable you mean...bolted to the ground? work computer? and who doesnt love Counter-Strike for only $5 including pizza. The party alone is worth stopping by. You dont even have to play if you dont want to. Also: this is becoming a monthly event very rapidly so send me your email address to auroucl1@aol.com if you want info on other LAN party events in the Lansing area(I promise no smap or advertising, only LAN info)

By unportable I mean it's a tower that weighs a good 50-70lbs, the case is open and many of the components are sitting on the floor, even though they're still attached to the computer. This includes all 3 of my hard drives. My 17" monitor is also quite big and heavy for it's size (it's about 5 years old).

I'm ashamed to admit that I have never played CS. I'll consider coming anyway though, $5 for pizza isn't too bad. If a bunch of other ATOT folks are going it'll be worth it, definitely.

Sounds a bit like my computer sometimes. As of yet I'm not sure how many people from ATOT forums are gonna be there(obviously, since this post has been up a whole half an hour) but I'm sure there will be a few! Just let me know if you plan on coming, or not either way its cool. :.-( Never played Counter-Strike? I supose thats not uncommon. But to anyone that likes a bunch of Counter-Strike I can say for sure there will be constant games of it going on! Me being in most of them. Bring it on!

BTW thats supposed to be a tear drop.

Sir Fredrick - THANK YOU

punkrawket - I suppose if you have a cell phone I could wire up my phone at my house to a radio? Or I could sing to you the whole time...lol

iamwiz82 - I cant say for sure what games will be played, but I know from past experiences we play any or all of these games(but not limited to these games)
--Couter-Strike (and other HL mods mainly including Day of Defeat, Science and Industry)
--Unreal Tournament
--Command and Conquer Multiplayer Renegade demo(pretty awesome for just a demo)
--Aliens vs Predator 2
--Grand theft auto 2
--Quake 3
--Dreamcast, N64, PS2, Gamecube with assorted games will also be available to play.
and basically any other first person shooters, rts, and a few rpgs that you could shake a stick at. We play a wide variety of games and the main games such as CS, UT, and Q3 you can find someone in the room playing that throughout the entire party I'm sure.

It is going to be held at VeVay Township hall on 780 Eden Rd in Mason. The maximum capacity for the room is 80 sitting banquet style, but I have had other smaller LAN parties here before and there should be plenty of room to hold 50+ (If not there is always a hallway to put more people in and if even more we could always look into a large sized tent for people in the parking lot) This is the first big LAN party I'm throwing and soon it is becoming a monthly event. As of this very moment there are 22 confirmed for the party excluding me. This leaves a 40 days left until the event to find at LEAST 28 more(which shouldnt be hard at all considering these 22 have confirmed within 1 weeks time of this news hitting the public) The next party after this is planned at 150 people and possibly a 2 day event. By the end of this year we hope to be up and running regular monthly parties with around 200+ reqularly attending(a dream...perhaps, but soon to become a reality) We are also trying to think of a better name for this party. Since it eventually will be moved into the city of Lansing we were looking at something with LANsing in it. Got any ideas anyone?

I am looking into a Counter-Strike tournament(or two) since that is the game most prefer to play. Possibly another tournament for a different game(most likely UT or Q3) Have a game you wanna do a tournament in?

As of right now we dont have a sponser for this party, I am going to go talk to a friend I know who owns a local computer shop about sponsering it though, or borrowing a couple switches.

usually CS, DOD, UT and Q3 are the tournys i've seen at lan parties

other lans i've been too they got AMD, Bawls, and PCMods to sponsor them... AMD gave tons of free stuff (an unlocked 1.4 t-bird, tons of bouncy balls, mouse pads, pens, shirts) and bawls gave a case or two of their drink... and pcmods gave a neon light and case and monitor carry things

I will have to look into that. Those are some pretty big sponsers though for a LAN party of only 50. How big were these other lan parties you have been to? MPCON? GRLAN? If I am able to get them to sponser the event you will be the first to know.

Hmm, I need to talk to the person that wrote the letter to AMD and figure out just how he got all that great stuff for 20 people! Are you sure he doesnt work for amd? Hey I know! I COULD GET ANANDTECH TO SPONSER IT!!! Hint hint. Really though, I'm gonna look into those sponsers, I have already started to write a letter in my head.

i think all he did was just email AMD and "praise" them some and say that he's throwing a lan party... and provided a link to a webpage... ya know to show that the lan is for real and not made up.... and just ask if they would sponsor the lan or whatever
