LAN Settings ??

Hi there, well I have a network of 5 desktops working with each other but no main server.

They seem to be running at 10Mb/s but they should be able to run at 100Mb/s, can anyone enlighten me as to how this can be done.

I have tried changing each machines settings to 100, but I am not sure if this is the right thing to do.

Any help appreciated.

What type of hub / switch are you running? Also, what type of NIC's? Are you using TCP/IP? What tytpe of cable (cat 5/5e?) are you using?

I am using a TCP/IP network, I am not sure of the cable category, is this relevant? The hub enables 10/100Mb/s.

Shouldn't each workstation automatically detect what speed it should be on?

Can I force the settings to handle 100Mb

If you click on "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel" then double click on "Network" then find your network card in the box there, and click "Properties" then click on the "Advanced" tab, then click on "Media Type" in the box. You can then change the value (It is the drop down box on the left).
^That is for Win 9X and ME.... I'm pretty sure that you can do the same thing with NT, 2K, and XP. Not sure where though... If you dig, I'm sure you can find the settings for it.

If you have cable problems (Like using Cat 3 instead of Cat 5), it will NOT work at 100 Mbps.

when i had my network set upthere was a button on my hug which switched between 10 and 100 mbs. Also only 4 of the 8 plugs allowed for full 100 mbs transfers.
