This whole even still makes me wish AK's for self defense were legal. I would have loved if he shot and killed at least 10 of them while they were hitting his vehicle. But I would settle for even one of their heads exploded by a point blank shotgun blast the moment he banged on the window.

They are legal. They require a federal license.

Huh??? I own an AK I bought from a store and didn't require a license for it....

An original (read: automatic) AK? Was it modified to limit it to semi-auto? That's the only way you could own an AK without a federal license. Automatic rifles require federal licenses.

Has lien been court-ordered to do defensive driving courses yet? He's obviously a terrible driver.

Still amazed at the people who think he is completely morally innocent in this. He almost got his family killed, he should've never been following the bikers so closely. I bet he regrets it.

I find it weird that you defend the motorcyclists here so adamantly, and then defend motorists so adamantly over in the cyclist thread.

Yeah, apparently a large bunch of bikers surrounding your car and banging on it is OK but he can't deal with a bicycle or two in front of him. :what:

Actually, if it's made before 1986 and the state allows ownership of automatics, no license is required. Just a tax stamp that's auto-approved pretty much.

Else, an FFL is needed. But you're nitpicking. I'm pretty sure heymrdj wasn't referring to a full auto AK.

I'm not nitpicking. Details like this matter. I did learn something, though, in that I didn't know that there was a cutoff @ 1986.

Doesn't seem rational to make such a rule, though. An automatic rifle is an automatic rifle whether it was made in '85 or '87.

Just goes to show that stupid people make the rules.

Cue Dari stating "where's your proof?" as if there isn't video evidence, another exchange presenting irrefutable video documentation, then his posing a theory of a series of implausible events painting the bikers in a good light, and personal insults here and there. Rinse, repeat ad infinitum. [/thread]

There really isn't much else to say in this thread. Opinions have hardened on all sides. My only suggestions here is to think twice unless you want to jeopardize your life and those of your family's. Assholes exist and they will continue to exist. I try my best to avoid them, not engage them. Not sure why this is so difficult to understand here. A few people get it. The rest are just stuck on stupid.

You want to be a superhero and put your family's life at risk. Be my guest. But when you're dead and gone, your wife will jump in some other guy's bed and your children will delete your name. Not worth it.

Now I know what it's like to be a politician. You have to repeat your story a million times until someone really hears and understands you. Fucking ridiculous how dumb people can be when they read something completely different from what you wrote. Maybe I should respond with pictographs.

If the problem continues to occur, perhaps it is your communication attempt that is the problem.

Ok, then stop and think about what I wrote. Put me in Lien's shoes. I honestly don't care about who is guilty in the eyes of the law. None of that matters to me. What matters is my family. So, irrespective of what the bikers do what really matters is how I respond. I am here after just bumping one of the bikers. He's screaming and yelling and hitting my window. What do I do? Do I get out of there because I'm outnumbered or do I confront this one guy that's really pissed? My answer is simple. Confront him and apologize (no point in arguing when you're outnumbered). Calm him down. Take his information and he takes yours. Once he's calm then you can use reason to seal the deal. In the end you get out of there with your family intact. Others may do something to your car but it's better than the alternatives.

This has happened to me before. I have never hit anyone but I've told them I wanted to get out of there and asked politely if I could go. I did not honk my horns. I rolled down my window and talked to them. They let me go. Lien was extremely hostile in the face of hostility. He just made things worse by not acknowledging what had happened, irrespective of whether or not if it was his fault.

You have absolutely NO IDEA what was happening after he pulled the Rover over, I'll take Lien's word that multiple people were attacking his vehicle, pull your head out of your ass and realize he rightfully felt his and his family's life were in danger, your pea-sized brain cannot grasp that concept however..

He can't be serious about this... can he? I mean, no one is this dumb. He's trolling, right? Please, someone tell me he's trolling.

If you're really that afraid of others after an accident then you're better off staying home. If you can't handle people screaming and yelling at you then you've obviously never been in the military or had a real, high-pressure job. It happens. Deal with it. I saw one confrontation in that video before Lien drove over the other motorists. That would've been the confrontation to deal with.

Don't know what else to say here. It's obvious that many people have not been in such situations. I have. In New York people chew each other out all the time. Right in your face. You deal with it and let them vent. You don't exacerbate it. At least I wouldn't. A public fight is not my thing. No different from a cat fight IMHO.

Climb down from your Ivory Tower, your righteous redoubt, and you may understand what I'm trying to say. There was obviously an accident. One person is angry. That means the other person has to be the adult.

I still don't know why Dari is of the opinion that when this guy bumped the other biker, despite him stopping, he had no intentions of being amiable. He stopped his vehicle for a reason. Then the bikers went savage thug mode on him, so his choice was either get assaulted by a gang of thugs or go sportbike bowling. It's not a hard choice.

Dari you have really dug your heels in on this one. Virtually nobody else sees it as you do, including prosecutors. Have you thought perhaps given this fact that maybe you are in fact completely wrong about this?

Again, I'm not arguing from a legal standpoint. I am arguing from a safety pov. The bikers did not descend on the suv as you claim. Many people stopped to see what was going on. A couple here and there may have scratched the car and hit it and whatnot but that was minor compared to everything that happened after. There was one person attempting to communicating with Lien before the incident and one person actively venting after the incident. You focus on that one person and ignore the others. Calm him down and try to reason with him. Of course he will be angry. His bike was just hit.

To answer your question, Lien stopped his bike because there was just an accident. But once he saw how pissed off the guy was he took off. He was scared. Not sure if he was even thinking about his family but I'm 100% sure he was frightened for himself. It's natural. It happens. That's when things got out of control. He panicked. If he had talked to the bikers none of this would have made the news. He ran but you can't outrun bikes, let alone hundreds of them.

The law may be on his side but, if I was him, it'd be the least of my worries. Court cases can be exhausting in many ways. Having people wanting to kill you is worse. Not worth it, IMHO.

lien's father in law is chief of police (edit family of influential NY state trooper, inside that thin blue line). That's the only reason this poor road mannered schmuck is getting this attention, including prosecuting the bikers. Shit I didn't even see 11 bikers involved in the attack.. They're just trying to make a statement.

Anyone see the video of the sport bikers that got pulled over and the cop even said, orders came down from chief to make motorcyclist's lives hell.

Ridiculous. All because lien wasn't paying any attention to his surroundings, put himself in a dangerous situation, then mowed over innocents on his way out.

Again....... Legally, the bikers are at fault. But lien set himself and his family up for this attack. Anyone who thinks his piss poor driving is acceptable needs to go take some drivers training classes.

It appears as though Dari is debating with 3-4 specific people who are loudly associating themselves with lien and his terrible driving.

They see themselves in lien, likely a former bullied kid, a terrible driver probably known for bumping into things, who decided he was going to extricate himself from a situation he placed himself in by mowing down innocent people in his SUV.

If you have issues figuring out simple road rules and are unable to see lien's issues then please, sign yourself up for some drivers training before you hurt someone or get yourself into a similar situation.

The only reason lien is portrayed the way he is by the media is due to his FIL chief of police. Otherwise he would be just another terrible driver bumping into things, and forced to take defensive driving classes.
