Landscape Drainage Problem

Recently we had a contractor put in a basement egress window which required a rather large window well. We put in a drainage pipe as well to carry water from our downspouts along with a surface drain to handle runoff from a concrete area. A few weeks ago we had a pretty bad hail storm that resulted in the surface drain clogging with hail and debris and ultimately led to water flowing into our window well and basement - a rather large amount, probably 50 gallons. We had to remove our carpet in the basement and all that fun stuff.

I've since replaced the flat drainage grate with the green one that sticks up and that seems to have helped. Are there any other more reliable options for moving water away from the well? I'm fairly handy and can do a lot of things myself so at this point I'm looking for some inexpensive options. Thanks.

There is no drain in the window well? Usually there is a drain with a good amount of perforated pipe running out from it.

you could use metal edging inbetween the concrete and well to create a dam.

looks like your main issue here is that the grading is all wrong, but sometimes that can't be helped after.

There's a bit of a sump in the well but nothing tied to any subsurface drain. We have a very old house. We didn't want to do metal edging so it could be used as a walkway.

your options are to divert or drain. If neither of these are agreeable you may be in the market for a port hole.

you could dig out the bottom of the well deeper and fill it with coarse gravel as well.
