Hi MechEng
Don't you crunch when on your PC when your just surfing etc?
Nasty lec prices btw!
Well, on modern PC's there is a significant difference in power consumption when just browsing, or actually loading the CPU/GPU 100% on all cores.
I allready spend $ 2500-3000 a year on electricity, and i do not heat or cool my house with electricity.
Assuming some numbers for a single full time folder:
250w = 0.25kW
24*365 = 8760 h/year
0.25*8760 = 2190kWh
2190kWh*0.40$ = $876/year
Too much for the time being, but some day...
and then I haven't even touched the subject of the carbon footprint... When I (in a few years time) have installed some solar panels, it will be cheaper electricity but also save a lot of carbon output. At least as long as we here in Denmark still use coal/gas for much of our production of electricity.
