LanParty + USB Keyboard

Snagged a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 (USB) last month for cheap after reading about it in Hot Deals.

What happened: Enabled USB Keyboard support in the BIOS, powered off, plugged it into my LanParty nF4 SLI-DR and powered on. Entire boot process slows down drastically, from detecting drives/POST to the Windows logon screen.

Also, no input is possible, so I can't type in my password.

I tried plugging my old PS/2 keyboard back in and powering up the system - problem solved, USB keyboard works fine.

Can anyone think of any reason reason for why I'm running into this issue?

It is very slow on the first boot as Windows is looking for the driver and load it to enable your new USB keyboard. After the first boot, your PC should go back to the normal speed. It may take some milisecond at the POST b/c BIOS scan the USB for possible boot partitions.

I don't think that's quite it.

1. Driver is already loaded/installed under Windows (IntelliType Pro 6.4), no slow Windows boot/able to use USB keyboard if a PS/2 keyboard is also plugged in
2. It doesn't "go back to the normal speed" "after the first boot" - happens with warm, cold boots
3. Not milliseconds, somewhere around ~10-15 seconds.
4. Doesn't explain why I need to have a PS/2 keyboard plugged into the PS/2 port to be able to use the USB keyboard.

seem to recall a problem awhile back, i may be way wrong, but in BIOS there was legacy usb support, that solved a prblem somewhat similar....not same board but look in BIOS for enable legacy usb support....give that a hoot.

I went through and couldn't find a setting like that, I'll look again the next time I reboot.

I tried using a USB -> PS/2 adapter and the keyboard wouldn't work at all.

Just went through and confirmed it, no "legacy USB support" option of the sort (although the "Enable USB Keyboard/Mouse" options are turned on). I guess I should mention that plugging the USB keyboard into an el cheapo Dell works just fine.

Last time I ever buy a DFI product, ever.

The USB -> PS/2 problem confuses me too...I had an older USB mouse that came with one of those adapters and it wouldn't work at all.
