Just about all the cooling pads will help. As for extended warranty, I have a very different view than most. I prefer to be "self-insured" based on the following.

The extended warranty is very profitable for the seller/OEM. Therefore, it may not be such a good deal for the consumer. Of course, this is based on statistics, and most consumers don't think that way. Usually electronic equipment has what's called an "infant mortality rate." Infant mortality is failure in the first few weeks or months. If it passes infancy, chances are it till run a long time unless abused. Statistically, the extended warranty will rarely be used or exercised.

Any good laptop cooler will work, I haven't seen where one is better than the other. The key is to get the base up off the flat surface if you will be using it for a long time.

My view on the warranty is to purchase the warranty or sell the unit right before the manufacturers warranty goes out.

I prefer this view myself. Why buy all those extended warranties? In the long run, I'll save money by not buying all these extended warranties (self-insured). Plus, using something like an Amex (or other warranty doubling card) gives you piece of mind. At the least, computers usually come with a 1 year warranty, so doubling gives you 2 years. If the laptop breaks after 2 years, whatever. By that point, you'd probably be itching for a new one.
