Maybe it was a typo on their website but I found a great deal on a laptop cooling pad. It was $12.99 (2 for $25.98) plus $7.00 shipping a total of $32.98 for 2 notebook coolers. I never ordered from the company though, so I don't know much about their customer service. I just placed a order today so it should arrive by next week. I will post will it arrives.

Has anyone used these? My Dell Inspiron 8200 gets damned hot after a while.

If you have, how heavy or annoying are they?

Is it something that can be put on your lap, so I can sit on my couch with my knees raised (my favorite position that i currently use a blanket to avoid burning)

thanks,
mike

I bought a passive, clear plastic cooling "plate" from Cyberguys for about $10. It works very well - only weighs a couple of ounces, less than 1" thick and about the same dimensions as a laptop. No fans or plug-ins required. It works at about any angle, keeps the laptop much cooler, and completely isolates me from the heat. It fits in most laptop bags that have a compartment for file folders or something similar.

Cyberguys also has an active gadget like the one mentioned above, but they want $23.50 for it. My advice: get the passive plate for ten bucks, but if you want something beefier, Suprapsu found a great deal.

I keep mine on a 50 pound block of ice; that way by the end of a trip there's nothing left to carry home except the laptop

You can also use those things you cool cakes on. Gives good air circulation around the bottom. Anything metal that's the right size and shape and looks like it would work like a heatsink would be good too.

Never seen someone so desperate for sales. Can we not lock this up so it can die an unmemorable death.

Thanks. Been looking for a good price on these to keep my UTV receivers cool. A popular AV Forum has a thread on these from other vendors who are getting about $30 each (yikes) on these.

So you newbies, just go ahead and pimp

I ain't gonna complain for a good price on a product I need.

You macho guys using the cookie sheets or whatever to keep yours nuts cool....just keep on keepin' on

Wasn't sure who you were referring too but I didn't mean any of my suggestions for your lap. They were tabletop suggestions.

I bought a very similiar (power block vs USB for power) looking cooling pad in June from another site (Yahoo Shoping) for about $25 delivered. It works great! When my laptop is cranking away the exhaust from the laptop's own fan is very warm. Once the cooling pad is running the exhaust is cool. I'm tempted to get this one just so I can eliminate a power cord from my clutter.

I just wonder how much power one of these uses. Seen these at Comdex a few years back, they were selling like crazy and cost a arm and a leg. Seemed like a good idea but never could consider buying one of these at a higher than $30 price. Wish I had this deal when I had my two year old Sony, you could cook eggs on the back plate. Luckily my new HP ze5000 has three fans to keep everything cool enough to sit on my lap. Still it could be use for long lap use. Thanks for the deal!

I'd be careful about this thing. I bought 2 directly (I think, it was a 2-for-1 sale) from the manufacturer, and the build quality is pathetic.
It works fine, but after a while you hear a grinding noise that can be fixed by flexing the pad in the middle until the noise dissipates. I don't even bother using it anymore with my Dell 8100.

Pimps up, temps down

Don't let these guys get you down, rudeness is a given here. I lurked for over a year before my first post, but now I just ignore it. This was a good deal, thanks.

Why are you guys thread crap like this? It is a good deal IMO!!

By the way, I can't get my order to processed because of some credit card problem. I'm going to try again tomorrow :-(

uh... so I get this pad because I'm afraid that I may be blocking the vent of my laptop when I put it on my lap... but wouldn't I still block the vents of this pad when I put it on my lap? It seems that it'll work better if the pad is hollow with solid bottom so the airflow can be redirect to blow out from the side or something. I can't really see from the picture, but is there a good enough screen to prevent something to get caught in the fan?
