laptop dvd --> tv monitor + dolby digital

I have a dvd player in a laptop and i want to watch dvds on my tv w/o having to buy a dvd player.
I figured this was a pretty common question but i couldnt find an old thread with it. or maybe this is something pretty easy.

If your lappy has TV-out you can connect that to your TV, and connect the audio line-out from the computer to the TV. As far as getting Dolby Digital sound, you are probably out of luck unless your laptop has a SPDIF or optical digital output.

If you don't have TV-out, then you need an external scan converter for the external video connection of the laptop. Audio would hook up the same as described above.

Some laptops have the appropriate connectors only on the docking bays. Sony Viao XG series as an example. If you don't have the docking bay you might be out of luck.

If your laptop doesn't have a video-out, Margi makes a PCMCIA MPEG-2 decoder card that also has video/audio output jacks. Do a search for the word "Margi" on *bay and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
