I never thought of switching to laptop from Desktop for gaming but now I am. as i look up frys and alienware and see highest expensive ones and i was like dammm specs are 9000 times higher than my current gaming desktop!

in the past like early 2000s I always assume laptop overheat fast cause it is small structure. I even got a toshiba from 2003 and put on my lap surfing for 15min and it is already flamin hot on my lap!

now today laptop specs are very mouth wattering. frys got like 12gb of ram! and alienware got 32gb ram! i know ram is very important for gaming cause on my desktop i got 2gb ram, x850xt..... then i swap x850xt with 3850 while still having 2gb ram and i dont really notice any big improvement playing lord of the rings online on max then back to x850xt and jus add ram to 8gb then i really feel the huge improvment.

x850xt, 8gb ram = feel huge improvement
3850, 2gb ram = dont feel improvment

so far I see highest graphic for laptop is gtx 560m..... what desktop gpu it equivalent to?

what you think of laptop for 24/7 gaming? can it handle 24/7 gaming as desktop? it is compact i can take it anywhere on the go and i can treat it as a desktop jus plug in mouse and start hardcore gaming. now what about heat?

Hello there!..

I can't be of much help with numbers and the desktop equivalent for the GTX560m..

As far as your temperature concerns, what I do before buying a laptop is check the grilles.

Some laptops have sideways venting, downwards, back , etc.. and there's rule no. 1: Never place your laptop on uneven surfaces. Laptops which vents drag from bottom choke and overheat is this is not observed.. The thing is that bottom vented laptops are among the better cooled ones, as they drag air from the bottom and exhaust to side or back.

2. It doesn't matter if your model has plenty of ventilation. Consider a laptop cooling solution if you plan to use it continuously. The reason: Plastics always deform (even if it's unnoticeable) with heat exposure and sometimes it goes to a point that it looks melted or you cannot re-install a removed memory cover without cracking it.

3. Although there are very attractive gaming laptop models, I've never seen a hard core gamer carrying one of these around for too long. The usual is a lan party style mid tower like the Cooler Master Storm Scout, or the NZXT Vulcan for mATX, etc... Flexibility and cooling are the main reasons for this.

Personally, I'd like to have a case I can really work on, populated with easy to deal with components for gaming. Today's gaming software is pretty demanding, specially on the GPU. Some graphics cards can go as high as 110°C when gaming. The ability to setup adequate cooling for such scenario is an important part to consider before making such decision.

A GTX 560M is roughly equivalent to a desktop GTS 450. So, it's a decent budget GPU but woefully underpowered compared to the CPU and RAM that they put into laptops.

Also, you seem to be a bit confused by the importance of RAM on performance. RAM is something that you either have enough of or you don't. If you don't have enough RAM, your performance will suffer. However, that doesn't mean that a system with 16GB of RAM is 4 times faster than a system with 4GB. In all honestly, 4GB is plenty for modern games (especially since most of them use freaking 32-bit executables).

Heat is not a concern on a laptop. All laptops are designed to adequately cool themselves under 100% load. Most games don't even push a system that hard. So heat isn't a concern. However, how a laptop handles dust IS a concern, since it is a lot harder to keep a laptop clean, heat can be a concern after several hundred hours of use are logged on the system. If the system is prone to getting clogged with dust quick (the old Toshiba A75's come to mind), that should be one to steer clear of. It's just hard to know if the design is prone to this or not, especially on newer models with fewer reviews out there.

Keeping the gaming surface clean, and trying to use it in clean environments would help.
