Laptop Harddrives all the same?

hey guysI know TONS about desktops but ZERO about laptops

will this drive fit in my current toshiba laptop?

I have a toshiba 6100, its just a regular big ol 7 pound laptop nothing fancy

the thing you need to double check is the height of your present hdd.
modern laptop hdds all come in 2.5" factor with either a height of 9.5mm or 12mm.

That will fit just fine. When you open the drive cage in the laptop don't be confused. The notebook hard drive goes in a small aluminum case houses your current drive. You need to mount the new drive in the existing aluminum case.

I've got a Toshiba Tecra and any 2.5" drive will work just fine. You'll really notice a difference between the 4200 rpm drive in there now and that 5400 rpm drive. You might want to look at the 7200 rpm notebook drives (toshiba, hitachi), they must really fly

Qucik question: Do apple have smaller hard disks in their notebooks, because my mate's iPod is smaller than a bare 2.5" drive. So either apple use their own hard disks for their laptops etc, or they've created soemthign completely new for the ipod?

i have the hitachi and it's almost as snappy as my desktop Western Digital 7200 RPM/8MB. not bad for a notebook.

can a 9.5mm hdd be used in laptop that had a 12mm hdd?

also are both sizes used equally by laptop makers or is one used more often?
