Laptop hot deal - Sony VAIO PCG-FXA36 for $1150 ($1010 possibly?)

The FXAs all have mobile processors. People who bought the predecessor to these, the FX210, found out that they had the AMD 800 Duron desktop chip (Spitfire?) instead of a mobile processor. Without Powernow features their stock battery went dead in about 45 minutes. The FX210 can be upgraded with the 900mhz Duron for $125, 1ghz Athlon4 for $200ish, and the 1.1ghz Athlon4 for $275ish. I am curious to find out if the FXA32 can be upgraded to an Athlon4 as well. I just don't want to crack the case open yet.

Beleive it or not, Sony fixed me up. I just needed to go into the bios and reset defaults after installing the new video drivers. Direct 3d seems to run fine now. BTW, thanks Madasambrani. If I hadn't read your post I probably would not have gotten this solved so soon. I had just set it aside and figured I couldn't run these games.

This is a pretty cheap laptop, I would recommend the Toshiba 7200cte, it's a one year old model but they're pretty cheap on egay.

Circuit City is all sold out including thier warehouse.

Laptop is a discontinued model so Circuit City won't be getting any more in.

i just bought this laptop, everything about it is excellent except the battery life and possibly the 3D chip. but given that you only get an hour of the battery, i wouldn't recommend it. omnibooks get about 4 hours....

The battery life on this thing is a joke. I have to carry my ac adapter around with me because it only last about an hour if I am doing any work. The extra battery is supposed to add four more hours, but it runs $250. I plan on calling Sony technical support and complaining, but doubt it will do any good.
