Laptop Keyboard Disaster

Yesterday I was removing the internal keyboard from my laptop, and I made one of the silliest moves I have ever made; I forgot to unlock the ZIFF connector... What I ended up doing was pulling out the locking device, and honestly have no idea where to buy one from. Are there any alternative ways to reconnect the keyboard's cable to the connector?

Here is a photograph of the connector, as can be seen, there is no locking device but I am pretty sure there is also no physical damage.

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. I need to know if there is an alternate way of keeping the keyboard cable in place, and also where to buy a replacement locking connector from.

If you pulled any contacts or traces from the board to which it was soldered, you may have a real problem. Even with a new connector, you may have broken some traces, or you may not be able to attach a new connector to the board, even if you have the tools and ability to remove and replace surface mounted components.

Your best bet is to start by getting a little more info. Call the manufacturer's tech support for suggestions, or take it to a repair place for an estimate. Even if they would charge more than you can afford, you may get enough info to know what you need to do to fix it.

Before you take it to a repair place or buy anything, try just putting it in there then taping it tightly together, or some other easy fix. Im trying to think of good ways....maybe rubber bands? Tape might not work because of the heat. (maybe, if it gets hot there). If there's no damage to the board, you're in luck and you might find a cheap fix. GL
