Hey guy I was in the same delema as you 6 months ago and I decided on the laptop.
Here is why.
Laptops are way cheaper then they used to be, here is an example: best buy had a sale last week on a 1.7celeron, with 256mb ddr, 30 gig hard drive,14.1 inch screen,dvd/cd burned drive, and everything else like 10/100 nic , 56k modem and lots of ports and stuff for check this out $900.00 Dollars!!! and there was a 100 dollar rebate too, so total after rebate was 850.00 with tax and all, that is a nice laptop for the money.
Most HDTV's are not true HD, they are like 700 or 800 line of resolution and then they down grade the signal to fit on the screen, to get one that is 1080 line of res will cost a minimun of $2500.00, not to mention that HD standard is still many years away and in a year or 2 you will beable to get a 60 inch true HDTV for like 1500.00 or less dollars.
I guarentee that one you could get for 1200.00 is not true HD, It may say that it is , but you have to read the fine print.

720 lines IS true HDTV. There are two HD standards, 720p and 1080i. You are thinking of EDTVs that only do 480p. It's not hard to find an HDTV for 1400 or so but you will need to get a decoder also.
