Laptop power adapter requirements for India

I'm planning to take a trip to India in the fall. I'm going to have to take my Dell Inspiron laptop with me. Is there an add-on I can get for the AC adapter I use to charge my laptop battery here in the US? Should I get a whole new AC adapter that will work in India?

Can anyone tell me what the electricity delivery standards are over there? For example it's 117V AC @ 60Hz here.

My grandparents had this adapter that changes 220v to 115v. I assume that India is 220v because I'm pretty sure most of Asia is 220v.

India is 230 V, 50 Hz. If you look on the adapter, it most likely states that it can accept up to 230 V input and anything from 50 to 60 Hz (this is called being "world compatible"). In that case, the only thing you would need is a new cable to go from the adapter to the wall, to fit the local sockets.

$5 should buy you a socket adapter if thats all you need (i.e. you have a universal 110-220V 50/60Hz input power supply, which is fairly common on notebooks now)

other than that, be warned that power supply can be more erratic (balckouts, brownouts), and in general, voltage regulation leads a lot to be desired. If you want to be very sure, it wouldn't hurt to get one of those power smoothers or surge protectors...

I just checked my Dell power adapter and it does indeed accept inputs in the range of 100-240V @ 50-60Hz so it looks like I'm good to go. All I need is a socket adapter which, should be easy to find.
