There have been a lot of threads in this forum lately about gaming laptops. There are probably still some visible if you browse the Notebook forum. Also use the search and search for "gaming laptop" in the title.

Hmmm... Ive searched the forums about gaming laptops, but as i stated before these laptops r really out of my budget.. Also how is the 'ATI X1600 GPU' compared to the Nvidia GeForce Go 6150?

Could some1 tel me wher i can find details about these graphice cards.. Proper details about their pixel shader stats etc..

Ive gotta pick a laptop pretty soon & i don want2 make a choice ill regret later...

The GeForce Go 6150 is an integrated graphics. The MR X1600 will be much better than anything integrated. I would say for a gaming machine, at the very bottom, go with the MR X1400. It won't be great, but it will play the games.

The x1600 and 7600 are generally the most powerful cards availible; the x1600's supposed to be a shade faster than the 7600.
The 7300 and x1400 will play games, but not that well.
The 6150 will play games not very well at all.
Intel's "Extreme" graphics (GMA950) is absolute junk.

The 7300/X1400 are 6600GT-ish level. That's pretty decent. You'll be able to run Counter-Strike: Source at 1280x1024. =p

The Asus W3J is one of those notebooks, but it falls out of your budget ($1800). I don't think you'll find too many notebooks with a MR X1600 and aroudn $1300. Maybe a Acer offers something with an X1600 in it, but the cheaper Acer models tend to have WXGA (1280x800) screens on the 15.4" models.

Acer Laptop from New Egg w/ x1600 for ~$1100

These Acers are not terribly sturdy. A friend of mine has one (different model, though the construction looks almost identical) and he managed to drop it and it got all scratched up and even dented in one corner from it. Outside of that, it performs well. THis is a far superior machine to his, but the resolution on the screen isn't that great. However, for $1069 and the x1600, I do'nt think it can be beat.

Good luck,

Thats an awesome deal...a dell inspiron, and most other brands for that much will only get you the intel GMA950, small hard drive, not a dvd burner.

are acers decent in reliability/support?

I recently had a entry level Acer travelmate and it was a good sturdy machine.
It was build well and performed great. I never had any issues with the warranty. I upgraded the CPU, so I tore the entire unit down.

The only issue I had was the silver finish on the top of the unit (lid). It is *VERY* prone to scratches. Most laptops have a dark finish, these models don't.

The entry level Acer I bought recently wasn't that great IMO. It felt cheap, was poorly constructed, and slow. However it was an entry level model. The $1100 one seems like a great deal, since you get a lot without paying a lot.
