Laptop Reccomendations...

Anyone know of a descent laptop in the $1000-$1500 price range? Its not really going to be used as a gaming machine, but more for business.

Really, I'm only confused on which processor type to get. I just want a fast laptop with a good battery life.

Thanks for your help. I've never bought a laptop before, so I'm really not up to date on what's good and what's not.

Anything with a Pentium M processor will suit you well. A lot of times they are also called "Centrino" notebooks. (Centrino is Intel's brand name for a laptop with a Pentium M processor, chipset, and wireless card). The Pentium M/Centrino offers GREAT battery life along with a good deal of processing horsepower. Intel designed it from the ground up for mobile applications.

As for which particular notebook would suit you best, I don't know...I don't know a whole lot about particular laptop models.

Dell Inspiron 600m - This laptop is decently light and a bit smaller than most, has great battery life and well....it's a Dell I've owned 2 Dell lappys and not had trouble. They just had a promo that ended over at Dell though...you could have gotten $300 off and free 2nd day shipping from a $1500 600m...taking it to 1200. Just needed a coupon code. Don't know what they are offering now.

The Pentium M is good for battery life, and it's faster than the GHz rating implies. Generally you can multiply the Pentium M's GHz speed by about 1.5 to get the equal performance to a P4. The Pentium M's have 1MB cache, new versions are going to have 2MB cache - the Pentium M 735, 745, and 755 running at 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0GHz I think. Funny Intel using numbering instead of GHz now. Codenamed Dothan.

Also, whichever brand you buy get at least a 3 year parts/labor warranty. Depending on how much travelling you do you might want to add a complete care coverage option.
