laptop storage

I recently had to make an unexpected trip. Work was cool about it so I got a laptop to take with me to a do a few work things while I was out of town. We take 3 or 4 vacations a year as well and I thought it would be nice for those as well.

Anyway. This thing is only gonna get touched a few times a year and has a non removable battery. What is the best way to keep this thing stored? Should I leave it on the power adapter or just leave it in its case and charge it when I need it?

Probably charge it to about half full, then store it (without the charger connected). Liion shouldn't be charged to 100% before storage.

Store in a cool dry place. Make sure it's shut down completely. Check it once every 6 months, and charge it back to half full if needed.

Best to power it up once a month and drain the battery and recharge a couple of times. Batteries are kind of crap when it comes to laptops if you let them sit. Since they're lithium as well storing them in a case is probably not the best idea if you want to spot an issue early on. For instance I had a couple of small batteries for a device that after time ballooned and expanded to crack their cases open for room to expand. If I had them in a drawer somewhere and didn't notice they probably would have eventually ruptured and worst case ignited.
