Laptop Transfer Question

Im using a computer in my "studio" to record music with. It's an old pentium one and I dont have it connected to the internet. I want to transfer the files from that computer to this one. But that one doesn't have a CD burner or any other medium besides 3 1/2 inch. I have an old laptop I think I can use to transfer but I have no Idea how. I heard about this thing that you can use printer ports to transfer but I used it and it didn't really work. I forget the name of it. Interlnk or something. So I have to find a way to move these files from one computer to another. Is there a program that can "cut" the mp3's into smaller pieces and then puts them back together? This way I can fit them onto a 3 1/2 inch. Also, how can I transfer to this laptop? Any other methods to move them. Sorry if this thread is incomprehensible, I'm trying to say too much.

The program you are referring to is called laplink. As far as splitting up files, you can use Winzip to span diskettes, but you need to have a lot of time and make sure your diskettes are good. If both computers have USB ports, there are also USB cables and software to do transfers that way.

What do you want your final destination for the files to be a newer desktop or a laptop. if a newer desktop just take out the Hard drive from the old and hook it up to the newer computers IDE cable as a slave of the main hard drive. may take getting on the old HD manufacturers web site to find out about slave jumper settings but not too hard and there are usually pictures. If to a laptop yea try the USB to USB kits. I have seen them at office depot, about $40 or $50.

I would go for moving the hard-drive as well. Parallel port transfers are painfully slow, as is zip spanning.
Failing that, sticking a network card into the machine is a good bet.

Umm, I suggest transfer over a makeshift LAn using crossover cable. What that means is you put in network cards in both computers, and use a special type of Cat5 that is wired as crossover cable and transfer the files hopefully quickly.
