Laptop Waking up from Hibernation by itself.

My Dell Win 7 laptop is waking up from Hibernation on its own. I will turn it off when I go to bed and it has turned itself back on without me turning it back on. I checked the event logs and I can see where the logs stopped at a little after 9PM but then at around 2AM it turns itself back on. I am not connected to the LAN just WiFi. This seems really odd to me. Several times I have come home to find the laptop running while covered with a pillow or something and I am afraid it will catch fire or burn up. This could also happen when putting it in a laptop bag. This behavior seems odd and not exactly safe. I have it set to hibernate when the lid is closed and that seems to not have any effect. Under what circumstances can a computer wake from Hibernation?

Why connect to WiFi when hibernated?

What I meant was, that it should not be able to wake from a LAN signal since it is not physically connected. WiFi is my connection to the net. Can a WiFi signal wake a hibernating computer? I was of the impression that hibernate was a complete shutdown that uses no battery resources unlike sleep that will drain the battery of the laptop.

WiFi is just a wireless WAN, and it can awaken your computer. Do you have a SSD boot drive in your laptop?

Look in the configuration tab of the Wireless Card properties menu and uncheck the Allow this computer to Wake.

What AV are you running? Any backup set up? One Drive?

Generate is great, when it works right. Really a pain when it doesn't.

Hopefully it's just something trying to get online, and disabling Wi-Fi from waking, as described above, will take care of it.

Windows Media Center will update at 3 am. (it will wake the computer to do so) You can disable updating via Task Scheduler. I had the same issue on my own windows7 box.

I still am puzzled as to why you have wifi on when you are sleeping.

I'm in fond memory of the PS2 port
RIP good bud.

With the proper software, my favorite was Logitech, that connection supported a cold boot of Windows (7 and back), with a mere space bar press.

I'm getting all nostalgic now, eyes brimming.

I still think there is something else. Waking it up. What happens if it is in a laptop bag when it decides to wake up? If you look at the event logs it says source unknown.
