So someone put an open coke bottle next to my t42 and proceeded to knock it over onto my computer. I immediately tried to dry the computer off as best as possible. I left it over night to dry out and it still wouldnt turn on in the morning. I took it apart and cleaned out all the coke I could find. Are there any hopes for it turning on once I put it back together?

I contacted IBM tech support and was told that type of damage wasnt covered by my warrantee. The tech support guy said that I could send it in but would be charged $899 to fix it. Im not quite sure where he got this number from, but it seems very high. Can anyone comment on their experiences with IBM repair service bc I though they had a reputation for taking care of their customers fairly well? He also said it would take a few weeks, and I cant be without a computer for that long bc of school stuff.

Does anyone have any advice or tips on what I could do to possibly get my computer working?

Thanks
Steven

YIKES! - Okay, first and foremost, torture then kill the "someone" that spilled coke on your T. Secondly, I'm afraid you may be out of luck; from everything I've always heard, spills are one of the very few things not covered by the warranty. Like I said, kill that sob.

It may turn back on now that you've cleaned it out, but if it didn't turn on before, there's probably not much chance of it coming back, I'm sorry to say. Still worth a try, though!

My stepfather has an iBook, and when that happened he first got as much liquid out as he could (use the exhaust vents as exits - don't just turn it upside-down). You could try using some active heat like a blow-dryer (but briefly) on it to clear it out. Give it a short while, and then try starting it up again - if it works, leave it running something high-demand to build up heat inside the case.

If nothing else works, you might also try rinsing everything out with rubbing alcohol (as high purity as you can find) to clean things up and dry things out. Maybe even acetone, although that would have a higher chance of dissolving stuff you don't want to, but would really help get rid of the water and get things dry. Where it's already broke, not much to lose. Good luck.
