I have a gateway 9500 laptop with xp pro and am using a chiefmax we302r pcmcia wireless b card in it and a wireless router netgear 614.

I set up wep protection and have a custom ssid etc I installed the drivers for the wireless card and bam it works fine and great everytime i restart laptop and works for hours of use no issues.

The problem is when I closed my laptop lid it is going into standby and when I reopen the lid the wireless card has a pop up that says aquiring signal i let it go for about 2-3 mins but it didnt find the signal, i went in and confirmed the passcode and such is all in there everything did work before closing lid yet after opening lid coming back from standby I cant seem to get it to find and connect to the router.

If I restart the pc it seeks and connects right away within seconds, and I can use it for hours without a single issue, but again once I close the lid and reopen it I get that aquiring signal and it never seems to reconnect...

What can I check or do to stop this from happening?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Bill

If I pull the card and reinsert it does reconnect to router fine, only when i close lid then come back to open it does it pull this weird aquiring issue where it never connects.

I even went into the power option properties and changed when i close lid from standby to nothing happens but when i close lid and reopen still same thing happens it says aquiring signal and never connects.

What about a repair connection (or release renew if you are cmd savvy?)

If you are only connected to wireless, then click on start, "run as". Type in cmd. This will bring up your command window. Then you should type in "ipconfig /release", the screen will pause a bit, then it will show you the IP information for your computer, which is now all 0.0.0.0. Then type in "ipconfig /renew" and it will grab a IP address again.

This doesn't help you much, but it does the same thing as unplugging your network card and putting it back in.

The next thing I would check out is to make sure you have the most current drivers for all the devices, particularly the PCMCIA ones for your network card.
