Everytime I try to turn on my laptop, it turns on but seems to freeze on the screen that says "Acer" (brand of my laptop). The loadig bar loads up to about 20% and just seems to freeze there. Any ideas on what I can do? I've had this laptop for about 3-4 months.

if you know how to open up the laptop, you would want to re-seat the cpu. only do this if you are comfortable working on laptops.

Have you tried tapping F8 before Windows starts? This would start you in Safe Mode. See if safe mode loads you up correctly. That will help determine whether it's a hardware of software issue. I'd personally try other remedies before opening up the laptop housing.

If the CPU were loose, you would not get as far as you are getting. A freeze during the Windows load suggests a bad driver. Try the Safe Mode load. That can help isolate the fault.

You want to tap F8 (and keep tapping it) just after the bios post and just before you see the Windows screen with progress bar. That should trigger the Windows boot menu, which will give you many choices; one of which is "Safe Mode". Use the arrow key to scroll to it when you see it and then tap the enter key.

I've been assuming you have Windows XP. Do you? Exactly what model laptop is this?
