Laptops with quality brand name SSD

I noticed that all laptops seem to come integrated with "extremely crappy OEM SSD". Is there any company that will let you buy quality brand name SSDs of specific good models, such as the Samsung 960 EVO, or 950 Pro?

I know you can buy a laptop with a regular drive and then replace the SSD yourself. But due to corporate red tape I need the laptop to come with everything in already.

I don't think any of the major manufacturers do. They all use the OEM versions of the 950 or 960.

You might be able to configure a laptop from a builder like Sager/Clevo with a retail version of the drive, but that's all I can think of.

Yeah, you would have to go high end to get laptops with choices of which SSD / M.2 to have in them.
Usually, it is better to buy a HD version, then get the SSD you want and clone the HD to the SSD.
Then you can use the HD to make backups of the system.

Dells used to come with a LIteOn (Plextor.) I actually had a Dell pulled M6S in my desktop for over a year... It is an OEM drive, however... giving little to no SMART data, not even total hours.

I know the Lenovo Thinkpad T460s , P50, and P70 use the Samsung SM951 NVMe drive.

My work HP has a SanDisk and work Lenova has a Samsung.

This! It is exactly what I have always done. When I receive the new notebook, I immediately clone it to a SSD of my choice, and then put it away. That way, I always have the barebones original HDD and, if I sell the notebook, that is what goes with it.
