Large Harddrives

With 400GB available is it wise to put so much data on one drive? Backing it up isn't easy since DVD-Rs only store a meager 4.7GB so how many of you feel safe filling the drive up to it's full capacity. My question is would you rather have two 200GB than one 400GB. At least if one 200GB fails you only lose half of the data.

I use quick-release hard drive bracket to quickly swap out drives as they fill up. I prefer to stick to 120 to 200GB drives.

I use big fat 400GBs. 17 of them, I just need alot of storage. RAID 5 is great.

raid 5 is surely better than 0, but i use a 250gig external for back up. i find 400's risky.

Honestly, what do you fill them with? High quality recordings of dvds & tv shows?

I have well over 2,000 albums worth of mp3s at high vbr and they don't take up 200gb.

Personally I like multiple 200GB HDDs.

Uh.. They're backups of Anime and Movies.. There are also backups of Chinese soap operas which I use to stream accross the house so my parents can watch em when they're visiting.

Holy purple-eyed, gray cow!!!! 6.8TB of storage!! That's pants-crapingly huge!!

Why do people "fear" 400GB HDDs? I can understand if a particular model, of any size, has a bad reputation. But not liking it because of a larger capacity?

Please people, even the folks with 6TB+, please ditch mp3 and all other lossy formats. FLAC (free lossless audio compression) is the only way to fly.
