I'm currently trying to decide between these large screen monitors as a replacement for my NEC 1760v-bk. There are actually 4 major choices, those being the:
AG Neovo E-19A 19" LCD
This monitor has a cool glass front, which makes it look VERY nice, and really does seem to add colour depth. It is only 1280x1024 though. I've check this one out at Compusa, even though it was hooked up to one of those huge circuits of monitors. It's $630, and I hear it doesn't ghost either. Of course, I could make Compusa connect it to a computer and show me if I decided on this one.
Samsung 213t 21.3" Black LCD
This monitor is 1600x1200, it's absolutely gorgeous from looking at it at Compusa. Plus it's HUGE. I played a little max payne 2 on one at Compusa earlier, and ghosting was there if looked, but seemed acceptable. It was kinda hard to judge, because that thing was pulling maybe 10 FPS, even though it was hooked up to that new compaq gaming computer w/ the 3.2ghz P4, and Nvidia 5950... just goes to show, a compaq is a compaq... It was also hooked up via analog, which I hear causes a lot more ghosting on this particular panel. It's $1200, and I've had my eye on it for a good long while now.
Apple Cinema Display 20" Widescreen
This monitor runs @ 1680x1050, and is a widescreen. Widescreen is a nice plus. It was kinda hard to judge ghosting on this panel at Compusa, since it was hooked up to a mac, and thus, no games. My main problem with this screen is it's bezel colour. All my stuff is black, and it all matches very well. I'm afraid that adding this mac coloured thing would mess up my flow. But it is the only widescreen contender. Also, I'd have to buy a DVI to ADC converter for $50-$100. This one costs about $1200 too. Edit: Actually, just found out I can get it for $999 + $25 DVI > ADC adapter. All the more attractive.
Dell 2001fp 20" LCD
This is really towards the bottom of my list. I've heard of a lot of quality control problems w/ uneven lighting and other such things. As well as overall poor image quality relating to some sort of interlacing effect. It is really cheap for the amount of screen you get, but price should be considered last amongst these contenders. Quality is important. It's somewhere around $800 for me.
Ok, now, my uses for these monitors will mostly be to watch HDTV (using an Hdtv tuner card) and DVDs. I also do a lot of web browsing (see my post count) and a fair amount of gaming. The HDTV and the DVDs certainly make that Apple display seem nice too. My main problem w/ the apple is, I'm not sure how it will look with my Logitech Elite Duo Bluetooth, and my logitech quickcam 4000, and my creative gigaworks, and my antec 1080 black tower, and my sennheiser rs85 headphones, which are all on or around my desk... They're all black and silver....
