Large Screen LCD Choice

I'm currently trying to decide between these large screen monitors as a replacement for my NEC 1760v-bk. There are actually 4 major choices, those being the:
AG Neovo E-19A 19" LCD
This monitor has a cool glass front, which makes it look VERY nice, and really does seem to add colour depth. It is only 1280x1024 though. I've check this one out at Compusa, even though it was hooked up to one of those huge circuits of monitors. It's $630, and I hear it doesn't ghost either. Of course, I could make Compusa connect it to a computer and show me if I decided on this one.

Samsung 213t 21.3" Black LCD
This monitor is 1600x1200, it's absolutely gorgeous from looking at it at Compusa. Plus it's HUGE. I played a little max payne 2 on one at Compusa earlier, and ghosting was there if looked, but seemed acceptable. It was kinda hard to judge, because that thing was pulling maybe 10 FPS, even though it was hooked up to that new compaq gaming computer w/ the 3.2ghz P4, and Nvidia 5950... just goes to show, a compaq is a compaq... It was also hooked up via analog, which I hear causes a lot more ghosting on this particular panel. It's $1200, and I've had my eye on it for a good long while now.

Apple Cinema Display 20" Widescreen
This monitor runs @ 1680x1050, and is a widescreen. Widescreen is a nice plus. It was kinda hard to judge ghosting on this panel at Compusa, since it was hooked up to a mac, and thus, no games. My main problem with this screen is it's bezel colour. All my stuff is black, and it all matches very well. I'm afraid that adding this mac coloured thing would mess up my flow. But it is the only widescreen contender. Also, I'd have to buy a DVI to ADC converter for $50-$100. This one costs about $1200 too. Edit: Actually, just found out I can get it for $999 + $25 DVI > ADC adapter. All the more attractive.

Dell 2001fp 20" LCD
This is really towards the bottom of my list. I've heard of a lot of quality control problems w/ uneven lighting and other such things. As well as overall poor image quality relating to some sort of interlacing effect. It is really cheap for the amount of screen you get, but price should be considered last amongst these contenders. Quality is important. It's somewhere around $800 for me.

Ok, now, my uses for these monitors will mostly be to watch HDTV (using an Hdtv tuner card) and DVDs. I also do a lot of web browsing (see my post count) and a fair amount of gaming. The HDTV and the DVDs certainly make that Apple display seem nice too. My main problem w/ the apple is, I'm not sure how it will look with my Logitech Elite Duo Bluetooth, and my logitech quickcam 4000, and my creative gigaworks, and my antec 1080 black tower, and my sennheiser rs85 headphones, which are all on or around my desk... They're all black and silver....

Your thoughts?

You definately can't go wrong with the 2001FP. You can get the 2001FP when there is a hot deal for around $800.00 which is a steal!

But there's so many people complaining about image quality, and build quality. Plus I'm in Texas, and have to pay tax. But this is about quality, not money. I'm willing to spend some cash to get a nice monitor that will last for at least a year. Plus it really bothers me that there's no store where I can look at a 2001fp to see if I like it.

Perhaps there's more complaints because it's just generally more popular than other models around here.

Dell has some of the best return policy around, so i really can't see how you could lose.

213t or 2001fp. I would go with any of those except the AG Neovo. How about a set of dual 1801fp's instead?

A lot of my usage is DVDs and HDTV, so I feel that dual monitors would not be a good option.

I wonder if I go to the Mac store, will they have games that I can try on one of those 20 inchers?

Nebor you do realize there are other large screen 16ms monitors out for less than $1200. Like the ViewSonic VP201s and the 19" Sharp that don't seem to be plagued with the quality inconsistencies that Dell is.

Yes, I looked at the VP201 series, I like the vp201b, but where can I actually test one out? Plus it costs as much as the Samsung 21.3", but is only 20"...

Actually, I just looked at the Viewsonic website, and only the vp201s has the 16ms response time, the vp201b is 25ms... How stupid, you can't get the black monitor w/ low response time...

I was going to pick up the 213t last week, but then I saw the 2001fp for $749. It came out to about $806 w/ tax.

I've had it for about 4 days now. I am very happy with it. Nice and bright. No dead pixels and built solid. It is replacing a 1800fp which is also a great monitor.

I am glad I bought it. The money I saved over the 213t went to a new Hercules 9800XT

I would go with 213T as first choice with that Apple close second. For the record, I've never seen 213T in action nor that AG. I've seen the Apple and I own the Dell. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

So you pick the 213t as the best here, yet you have never seen it or used one?

Dell 2001fp. Quality issues are far between especially since the October builds.

If you don't like it then return it. No problem. Dell has a very generous return policy.

I do own the Dell, btw.

I have the 213T. My research told me this is the LCD with the best picture at 20-21 inches. Its colour/picture reproduction is far superior to the tacky dells. Basically its great, and with Dvi i dont notice any ghosting at all. If you want me to post pics, Pm me the game you want to see (if i have it) and ill show you a few pics of it in action.

I've seen pictures from users and read enough user reviews to know it's top quality unit.

If I was spending $1200 on a monitor upgrade I would get two Planar PX191s. I own one now and it's wonderful. I have no ghosting that I can notice when gaming, I paid $640 or so from dell. For gaming contrast ratio is as important as refresh, pay attention to how well the monitors you are looking at handle dark/black images.

I would not go higher than 1280x1024 on a 19", but that's just my personal taste. If you want to toast your eyes looking at miniscule text go for it.

That apple cinima looks cool but If I was getting a wide screen I would need something bigger. I went from a 15" normal laptop screen to a 15.4" wide screen and it feels like a definite downgrade in size. If it was not for the pentium M CPU and faster/bigger hard drive and CD writer I would be running back to my old laptop.....

Another important consideration when buying a monitor is the manufacturers "bad pixel" policy. Some allow way to many before replacement/repair.

I'll be upgrading my monitor solution in a few months, and making the decision between a new 21" or getting another 19" with a dual monitor vesa mount. If I had to choose today it would be another 19" PX191.....

Model Number PX191
Planar Part Number

997-2288-00 (Black)
997-2289-00 (Silver)
Display Panel 19" LCD Active Matrix Flat Panel Display (TFT)
Color 16.7 million

Brightness (typical) 300 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio (typical) 700:1
Response Time (typical) 25 ms (15 ms rise, 10 ms fall)
Refresh Rate 56-75 Hz
Supported Resolutions 1280 x 1024 SXGA
Pixel Pitch 0.294 mm x 0.294 mm

Dual monitors, while far more economical, are just not what I want. They don't look cool, and I don't like the bezels in the middle when you try to watch a movie on them.

For $1200 you should be looking into a set of 4 22" CRTs, each of which will do 2048x1536 @ 85Hz (4096x3072 total).

LCDs haven't gotten out of the silly toy stage yet.

Nebor, there are a bunch of posts in this thread from a Cinema Display user. He's got a 23", the 20" is supposedly a little better specs wise.
