so this $30 for the long route, is that including tip?

no tip included yet. I think i paid $36 last year.

So ask them not to take the long route, if they don't oblige, don't tip?

LOL @ people going to Las Vegas and thinking $30 is a lot to pay for something.

Normally, the limo from the hotel I'm staying in picks me up at the airport.

Honestly, I don't know why more people don't just rent a car. Much of Vegas is walkable, sure, but there's a lot to be seen elsewhere as well. I've never had a problem parking at any of the casinos either.

for about $20 you can usually have one of the car services run you to the strip if you find one dropping someone off

FYI, the monorail line ends about 1mile north of the airport, yet the Taxi association has fought and managed to stop a planned extension that would cut them out of the mandatory loop.

Maybe because people don't want to designate a driver on vacation.

Monorail ends at MGM and goes all the way north. Ask to be taken to the MGM and $12 ticket on that gets you all over the strip (and to the convention center directly) for 12 hrs. Its about a mile away so you can walk (and i see people doing the walk daily actually as i leave work seems like) - so long as you have a rolling suitcase and backpack its not that bad.

saying 'one of the hotels on the strip' doesn't say much. The strip is like 5 miles of hotels.

When you take a taxi from the airport, what route should you tell the taxi driver to take? Last two times I been taken on the long route and got charged about $30. I'm staying on one of the hotels on the strip.

Tell the driver not to take the tunnel.

Take Paradise Rd. out of the airport and this will bring you to any road crossing the strip. Tropicana Ect...

Or I could pick you up and drop you off for 20.00

Meh, I've never had a problem. Unless you're drunk the entire damn day, use the car to get around, hit some restaurants, etc. and then walk your drunk self home. It's not that difficult.

There's more to see in Vegas than the strip. That's my only point.

Is this a special shuttle that goes to Mandalay? I paid $6.50 for a damn shuttle that had to stop at MGM, NYNY, Tropicana, Excalibur, Luxor, and finally MGM. Felt like a damn hour. I should've just taken a cab especially since we had 3 people in our party. Pissed me off.

The shuttles are grouped, one line serves several hotels in a cluster. That's the tradeoff, it's only $6 but you aren't the only hotel it stops at. It's still better than being taken for a ride (in both senses of the term) in a taxi though.
