Some more little tidbits:

-Get a players card for all the casinos you go to. Players cards = great comps. I played lightly at the Stratosphere and got comped rooms for $15/night. You get better comps if you play the tables. You can get a free room (at the Stratosphere, at least) for playing 3-4 hours on dollar slots or 8-10 hours on quarter slots.
-Check everywhere you can for airfare, and check all different dates and airports nearby. It was cheaper for me to book a trip for an extra day in June, including the hotel ($186 rt from Philly).
-If you play in Atlantic City, get a players card in Vegas with your A.C. account. For example, I play blackjack upstairs at Bally's in A.C. When I went to Vegas in January, I created my Vegas account at Bally's with my existing A.C. account. Since the cards in Vegas are used in multiple casinos, I got a room comp in Caesars, even though I never actually played there in Vegas. My girlfriend, who just filled out a new application at Bally's Las Vegas, got no comps. Which leads me to...
-Get a joint account if you're going with a significant other that gambles. You get combination play, which I wasn't aware of when I originally got my card.
-Use the buses to get around. You can go anywhere on the strip for $2, and walk whereever else you need to go.
-If you're 25, married, or make over $40,000/yr, try listening to a timeshare speech. By giving up a couple of hours, you can score a free weekend in a nice condo or hotel.
-If you have Comcast Digital Cable, check out the "Comcast in Demand" channel. Under the TV shows menu, then travel, there is a show called 3 perfect days in Las Vegas. It has great tips on places off the strip you might not hear about.
-Wear comfortable shoes.
-Check out the Bellagio fountain show for sure. Also, if you're in college or young, check out Fremont St. The first question nearly every person you tell about your trip will ask is, "Did you see Fremont St.?"
-The Tropicana has sweet comps that they hand out outside the casino. We used a 2 for 1 dinner comp (service was incredible, and the food was good) and the 2 for 1 comp for the Rick Thomas magic show (which rocked).
-Don't get in over your head with the gambling.

So there's my first post here, ever. Hopefully I am giving something back to a forum that has given me so much.
-Mike

amdskip - I look forward to your OT thread about your Vegas trip.

If you have any buffet recommendations which are cheap but good please do list them with all the details, thanks!

Great posts by a lot of people here. If you know anything about getting comped or player club's cards, could you post it in my Off-Topic thread? I'm trying to gather information about getting comped. Just do a search for 'Vegas' and you'll find it.

Thanks.

IMHO the Sahara buffet falls into the cheap but good catagory ($6 lunch). Look for twofers in the Review-Journal they put them in their ads periodically. The RJ is a good source for all last minute deals BTW. Sahara has a lot of standard faire but they make fresh baked pizza which is quite good, their salad bar is decent and their desserts are good.
If you have a car and can go off strip Texas Station and Sunset Station and the near neighbor to Sunset, The Fiesta-Henderson have real good cheap eats. Texas and Sunset have real good BBQ, Fiesta-H is good over-all.

Funny, they kick me out, and I come back in and show em my ID an hour later.. I'm 21 now, Mr.Officer/security guard, get lost =)

Haha, I was just in the same situation this past weekend. I turned 21 on saturday 6/1, but I planned on arriving friday night around 10pm. Of course, we end up being delayed and I arrive exactly at midnight. But anyway, I'm pretty confident they will not kick you out for being 1 hr too young. They never even checked my ID except at the tables, the bar, or the cashier (most often at the cashier). No security guards blocking the door checking IDs. I even got a free suite upgrade during checkin just by asking.

Have fun in Vegas, and don't lose too much money!

I know the guards don't check ID at door.. They do check when your playing, I notice they CHECK a lot more if they notice you winning. I was playing(Last year) for bout 2 hrs.. then I hit the small jackpot light came on(Dunno like $75), I started cheering to my friends, then 2 secs later.. "Can I see your ID?" WTF,. you didn't want to see my ID when I was losing.

Oh don't say that.. I don't want to lose ANY money lol. Actually planning on winning couple of G's, dunno maybe $30k when I'm there,.. want a new car... ok, I'll wake up now
