I'm going In for an evaluation and I will be doing this. Who has done it and how have your eyes been since?

There's like forty threads about this. Might want to search.

I had PRK on my right eye, but I'm kind of a unique case. The PRK took me from about 20/600 to 20/80, but the main purpose was to attempt to help smooth the cornea surface (I have keratoconus) to allow easier contact fitting. Long story short, I was never able to be fitted in those contacts, but I found another lens that works great (it likely would have worked regardless of the PRK). But oh well, as a bonus at least I can see enough to not kill any dogs when I get up to pee in the middle of the night.

The surgery itself was fine, super easy, no complications.

Had it done a couple years ago. Still at 20/15. Best money I've ever spent.

With that said, I was as close to an ideal candidate for it. Listen to your optometrists recommendations.

I never qualified for PRK (they wouldn't let me do it with my prescription changing every 6 months) while in the military. I would much rather that than LASIK. Everyone I know that has had it done loves it though. Perhaps in another few months I'll get another evaluation.

I did it in 2010. Took 6 minutes start to finish. No pain, very very minor discomfort - just from fear and me disliking things near my eyes. Follow-up exam I was a lil fuzzy still. 2nd and final follow-up exam I was 20/20 vision. Best $8 grand I ever spent.

Probably one of the worst decisions I've ever made.

I had custom lasik (they even redid it once) with the intralase thing and since then I have:
double vision
dry eyes
increased light sensitivity (forget about ever driving w/o sunglasses even when cloudy)

I have to wear rigid contacts to reduce the double vision.

The bad dry eyes also caused complications for another surgery... basically I developed a corneal ulcer and now my vision is even worse and can't be fixed.

I had PRK in 2008. Best money ever spent. There's just no explaining how great having perfect vision is. One of the best things you can do for yourself.

PRK is more painful afterwards I hear - just have to take advil or something to ease it for a few days.

I went in for a consult about 10+ years ago and was told that I'm a bad candidate (I've got a bad eye where I'm legally blind, and a less-bad eye where I've only got a slight prescription for driving... the doctor told me that the surgery could potentially do nothing for the really bad eye and make the less-bad eye even worse)... I've thought about going back for a second opinion after 10 years of tech advancement, though.

I did PRK. The healing process takes quite a bit longer than LASIK. Nothing like seeing an orbital sander come and grind away at your eye then smelling the burn not long after.. Atleast your eyes are completely numb.

Yeah, Intralase is dumb.

By using a laser to cut the flap it burns the eye tissue. A thin blade cut LASIK (like Epi-LASIK) is much better for most people. Less dryness and chance for complications.

But Intralase takes less talent (you put in the parameters and hit a button unlike bladed LASIK where the surgeon has to make the cut by hand) and its easier to market (LASERS!!!) so that is what many places do.

If the place you are going:

1. Advertises being a LASIK center or chain.

2. Pushes Intralase before measurements are made (sometimes it is best option)

3. Has a doctor do the LASIK that is a different doctor than does the follow up care (like a optometrist does the follow up care).

THEN YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!!!!
