Short question, long thread. Did they replace the lens?

Eye Doc told me I have vacules(?)/floaters and I'll have cateracts in my 50s....hell, 50 now, so I'll need new lens.

Lens, lenses, lensay.....lohan...:hmm:

That's pretty early for cataracts. Are you a welder? or a sun worshiper? Oh well, when they replace, you can custom order perfect vision.

My idiot dad chose to get slightly imperfect vision because he thought if he got perfect, it would just degrade. His surgeon shrugged and said, "You're the boss."

I sit my fat ass in an office. Go figure. Yeah, I'll be going with the multi-focal lens. Might have to sell my kid to pay for them though.

I had severe astigmatism and near nearsightedness. Had it done 20 years ago. No regrets, I highly recommend but there are risks. I did have the dry eye and halo side effects, slightly, and the doctor told me about it beforehand. This lasted for a couple of years only. Started at 20/15 now at 20/20 and 20/25. However I need a bright light on IC's to read the print now. I need the high contrast. Could be my age too.

LASIK was probably one of the worst decisions I've made. It was great for about 2 months then I started to get double vision and my vision got more blurry. I had the LASIK redone and the same thing happened.
Then I had to start wearing rigid contacts to correct the double vision (glasses or soft contacts do not work).
Also LASIK left me with dry eyes and that caused some complications with another eye surgery (corea almost degenerated to the point of needing a transplant) and has left me highly dependent on artificial tears.
That being said, the odds are in your favor that it will be fine.

Was the doctor reputable? Are they going to try to re do it again?

I had mine done in early 2001 also.. no issues, no side effects like some of the other users here. Hopefully stays this way forever.

Had mine done last year. Went from -10.0 (don't know what the 20/# is?) in each eye to not needing glasses. It slowly regressed to 20/35 in my right eye and 20/40 in my left eye. I'm going back in for a re-evaluation and will probably get a follow-up correction.

The doctor told me my cornea was above average thickness (over 600 microns) prior to surgery. After surgery it's about 550? Still above average apparently.

It was funny when I went in for a follow up. I mentioned the pain to the doctor and asked if it was normal. He then said something like, "Well, what we did was we took a laser beam and we vaporized a good layer off the top of your eye ball, so that is expected to hurt".

Had Lasiks done in 2005. Very bad going in (-8.5, -8.75) with heavy astigmatism. Everything healed up within a few weeks. 20/20 in one eye and 20/25 in another eye. Went from right-eye dominant to left since left is now more clear than right.

I would NOT get it done if I could do it again. Night time driving sucks ass and I see starbursts from all light sources and halos exist around smaller lights like LEDs. Shooting with red-dot sights now = a no go. And I can't seem to focus on peep sights either. Eyes get dry quicker as well. In a nutshell it did get me away from glasses and contacts for close to a decade now, but I would rather have my 4-6k back and just stuck with glasses.

The biggest life-changing eureka is that when you're in your 20s you have the money to try to optimize yourself physically...but when you hit your 30s things start falling apart, slowing down, etc...and you learn to deal with aging...thus elective surgery turns into an unnecessary expense.

I'm still getting starbursts too and halos, but TBH even if they don't go away I find it's worth it when I consider all the annoyances I had when wearing glasses. Constantly having to clean them because they seem to attract every possible spec of dust, they'd get dots in them when it rained, had to watch where I sit because of reflections if there are light sources behind etc...

But yeah night driving does suck now, and now that it's winter, pretty much all driving is night driving, but I'm just more careful. I do hope it will get better though, but even if it does not I find it was all worth it.

Had it done about 20 years ago. The initial starbursts at night with streetlights and oncoming headlights was annoying but acceptable. Hoped it would get better over time like Doctor said but it never did.

When driving at night using amber glasses helps a lot to cut down on the starburst effect.
