Laser levels are da bomb!

Spent the day (and tomorrow) installing posts for an 8' privacy fence (one side is over 100'). Got a laser level to use and it is really nice!

They can work over HUGE distances it the lighting is dim enough

In CA fences/walls can't be over 6' tall. Make sure you are within code.

I wish I had one. I've never used one. But I did have a laser pointer till it broke. I want to buy a new one from Amazon.com with my $15 GC but they don't have them in stock! Aaahhhhh!

I used to work at a place that sold and repaired Spectra Physics/ Trimble laser levels and other laser tools. The calibration bench for them was $45K.

Used Spectra-Physics levels all the time when I worked for my father's construction company.
Also pipe lasers, which were so much more efficient at getting the correct amount of rise/fall.

Just keep the red dot at the right height and dead center in the trench...and you'd be good to go.

It really is astounding how awesome they are.
Not to mention how expen$ive...WOW

On a side note, how do you use a laser level to build a fence? Does it keep the posts straight so ya dont havea curvey fence or what?

Laser levels really are the bomb... Except that one close to the end of NOLF was just too darn hard

We used mason sting and levels to set the posts, but are using the laser level to pinpoint the exact level that the posts will be cut off at. The rear area of the fence is 8' with both sides being 6'. The back slopes down so the laser level is working wonders matching the top of the 6' with the top of the 8'. We don't even have the pickets or stringers up yet (dealing with hard clay and tree roots ), but with the laser level all the posts will be exactly the same height no matter what the terrain does.
