Laserjet 2200dn and jetdirect network printing problems.

I have a Laserjet 2200dn with Jetdirect 610N in a netwotk with 3 computers. None of them can print to the laserjet although the network has no problems, and the printer prints the configuration page when i press the two buttons at the top, but without the jetdirect ip printed (also no info on the jetdirect is printed). Also the green lights of the jetdirect are always on. I have also tried to print a test page, with no result. I get the message "this document failed to print." The message does not appear immediately after i press the print button, about 1 minute later. Any help? Thanks!

That tends to mean the jetdirect isn't being detected by the printer. Under Installed Personalities and Options on the print out does the Jetdirect show up as a device in one of the EIO slots? If not the card or formatter is bad. If so then the network config may be damaged and can be reset in the menu.

The JetDirect card might've crapped out if the IP address isn't on the config page. Are there any activity lights on? If you have another JetDirect you could test with try that.

The green light of the jetdirect is always on. Imagoon where do i find the option "Personalities and Options"?

Normally it is on the "Print config" page someplace. On a 4000 it is the bottom left side. Not sure on the 2200 but something like it should be there.

I used to tech support for HP corporate lasers, I would put money on your jetdirect being toast. On the config page what does it say is in the EIO slot?

Reseat the card & cold reset the printer, if that doesn't bring back the jetdirect configuration page (on the 2200 it is a 2nd page) then you need to replace the jetdirect.

To cold reset:

Turn off the printer. Hold down the GO button. Turn the printer on and continue to hold the GO button for five to ten seconds. Release the GO button after the Attention light turns on. (If the button is held down for 20 seconds or more after the LEDs come on, it may reset the page count and remove the serial number.)

Those cards are notoriously unreliable, they die all the time.

Yes you should get two pages. If you're only getting one you almost certainly have a bad card. Reseat + the cold reset MIGHT fix it but very unlikely in my experience.

Hey, I have a 2300 sitting right here next to me in our office. Stopped working 3 months ago. It would fail off and on over the past year and wouldn't let anybody print to it. We are pretty sure it's the jetdirect card. I'd say toss it.

Yes a cold reset clears the card settings.

The easiest way to reset the IP is using another HP printer that has a control panel with a display. Something like a 4x00 series monochrome, anything that has a display and an EIO slot. The settings are retained so you can move the card, configure it, and move it back.

If you don't have another printer available then you'll need to use Web Jetadmin:

Remember this is only if the card shows up in the EIO slot and you get a 2nd config page. If that doesn't happen go get yourself another Jetdirect (or since they are so obscenely expensive another 3rd party external print server would work too).
