I had it done in Feb 07, and an enhancement done in Oct 07. Definitely glad I had it done, just be sure to get a reputable surgeon. Cost me around 1650 plus the cost of artificial tears, which cost around 20 USD per box. I actually think I've averaged more money in tears than the actual surgery. Figure a box a week since Feb 07. It adds up. The financing was a 12 month interest free load, which I paid off last month by paying more than required.

I had it done Nov 16th. I was seeing almost 20/20 and driving the next day. There were no complications. I have dry eyes now so I carry around eye drops with me. I had really bad dry eyes (eyes were bloodshot even with drops) about 2 weeks ago. I was given punctual plugs and then was put on a prescription eye drops about a week later. Dryness is starting to go away. There is also glare but its nothing different than when I had glasses. I also noticed that my eyes get tired from staring at the computer monitor after about an hour or two. I've been taking breaks to rest my eyes and using artificial tears to help with this.

Hopefully this helps. Good luck.

The best money my wife and I ever spent. Had mine done 6 years ago and my wife had hers don 4 years ago. We both couldn?t read a license plate from 5 feet away. It was 2700 for each one of us to get it done. PM me if you live in the Los Angeles or San Diego (office in near San Juan Capistrano) area the guy that did our eyes has also done a bunch of my friends, and a lot of doctors go to him to get their eyes done also.

I'm considering LASIK, and I'm curious about the drops. Are you guys saying you have to spend $20 a week on drops forever? Did you have dry eyes prior to the surgery, or is it strictly caused by the surgery?

My dry eyes went away after a few months, and only occur when I sleep with my eyes open. But honestly, it really varies person to person - I don't know where you got $20/week though? A bottle of drops (good ones) cost $10 and should last a month or so!

He's using the individual use ones, those are a waste. Get the stuff in a dispenser bottle.

Dry eyes when they are closed is a bitch. I've never had lasik, yet I still get it.

I recommend the Refresh Liquigels. Those things are jelly, but feel great!

Getting Lasik this Thursday. 4k for both eyes with all expenses paid and free adjustment with in the first year. They use the newest technology. I hope to post an update on Friday.

With my glasses, my current vision is 20/20 or 20/40 depending on my astigmatism (spl). My vision is -5.25 so I'm basically blind without my glasses. Also because of my astigmatism I gave up on contacts. Hopefully lasik will/should fix both of those problems.

Been loking foward to lasik for a long time. It's gonna be weird to not wear glasses--been wearing them since 1st grade.

UPDATED
Got lasik yesterday. The procedure was really weird but only took ca. 10-15 minutes.
First they marked my eyes so they could reposition the flap correctly.
Then I got onto a reclined table/chair (think of a lazy boy where your head is lower than your feet)--so they could swivel me between the two lasers: first one to make the flaps and the second to fix my vision.
They put some type of thing over my eye so that my eye could be kept open for the flap creating procedure. It felt like it has suction--my vision was horrible so I couldn't really see what they were putting on me. Then I was told to look at the laser while the laser cut the flap. This took ca. 20 seconds and felt like there was pressure on my eye. Then they did the other eye.
After that they opened the flap on my right eye, I went from seeing poorly to really poorly.
I was swiveled on the table to the focusing laser where I was told to remain still and look at the blinking red light (the laser obviously). Then they counted down the time remaining. The laser gave off clicking noises and it went from being a completely on focused red blob to a tiny focused red dot.
Next she put my flap back while I was told to still focus on the red dot. This took ca. 1.5 minutes; she had the flap on but I had to look at the laser while they counted down.
Then they repeated the correction with my left eye.

When it was done my vision was like in the movies when they have a flashback with hazy vision.

I was given the anti-inflammatory drops, the antibiotic drops, goggles, and then went home. I kept my eyes closed on the way home. When I got home, 1.5 hours later--took longer due to traffic, my eyes hurt pretty bad. I couldn't open them and my eyes felt like they were scratched and lots of pressure on them; think of getting dust in your eyes and being really deep underwater at the same time. I was told to take a nap ca. 1 hour after the procedure and would have been nice if I had.

After I woke up from my nap (ca. 3 hours), my eyes felt fine. Like the first time you put your contacts in--a little dry, except there was nothing in my eye obviously. I applied the drops (anti-inflammatory and antibiotic drops). Then my eyes were fine the whole day. The rest of the day I applied the anti-inflammatory drops every hours and the antibiotic drops every 4 hours.

This morning my eyes are just fine, applied the drops via the orders. I will go for my post opt appointment at 1pm today. It's still hard to focus when reading and on the computer but its only been 26 hours since the surgery and I was told it will get better--I'll be updated today.

I have yet to use the wetting drops they gave me. Don't think I'll need them; in my pre-opt appointment they measured my tear rate and told me that it was pretty high.

I was kind of shocked to see a post by Amaroque but this is obviously really old. For those of you that don't know, the OP passed away back in March.

Kind of weird to read his words.

I got LASIK done on October 16th 2008. I had -4.75 in my right eye and -5.25 in my left eye before. So far it's been great. I had an eye exam done by my personal doctor and he said my vision was 6/4.5 which is 20/15, better than 20/20. It was $3500 CAN for both eyes. I had to use artificial tears every 2-3 hours the first two weeks, but now I only use them once a day, when I wake up. I'm sure soon enough I won't be needing a single drop.

In conclusion, it was worth it.
