one year bump? not bad.

i dragged myself out of my house to see Postmodern Jukebox, that YouTube band which does 30s/40s/50s styled covers of popular R&B songs.

they were good, but not great.

i used to go out a lot when i lived in brighton, around 2005~2007, saw Corrosion of Conformity, Clutch, Josh Winx, and a ton of alternative / garage bands.

it's just that live music doesn't excite me. As an ex-pro, i have a cynical view of music as a consumer product; i am more interested in how they do it, rather than what they do.

I went to Ronnie Scot's (live jazz) a couple of times while in London, but that place is just so expensive.

Went to see Postmodern Jukebox myself back in June.(It was over at the Crystal Ballroom in downtown Portland,OR.)

Had a blast.

7.2.4 setup in perfect harmony with THX reference levels being pushed by four 1000w class D's for the surrounds + two 2000w sub amps in a two-tier home theater room with 8 reclining seats facing a 180" diagonal 4k LCD home theater Projector.

990sq/ft basement room with a bathroom 10 feet away, a fully stocked bar and full-sized fridge. Entire room is surrounded by smart glass so it doubles as a workout room when the glass is set to "mirror" and then becomes a theater room when the current turns the glass matte.

I do not let most guests ever see this room. The rest of my house suggests I live far, far more frugally.

Why the fuck would I ever willingly submit myself to a bunch of dirty smelly disease ridden hippies in a show with tons of blinding lights and shitty sounding over-powered audio when I have something superior at home? I guess this applies to movie theaters, too.. Popcorn time + Netflix and I never need TV or a big box theater again.

Learning to protect my identity is one of the primary reasons I have nice toys. I intend to keep it that way.

In my younger days I used to do 3-5 concerts a week (mostly punk rock shows in shitty dive bars, bowling alleys and or basements). I've burned myself out on concerts and rarely go anymore. Just too old and most the bands I want to see aren't together anymore.

My last shows were We Were Promised Jet Packs, Iron and Wine and/or Dave Chappelle. Probably scattered over the past 2 years or so.
