Leaving tomorrow and feel like doing one last hurrah on the roulette table. Overall, I am on the negative for this trip, hopefully this one last bet will help me out a little. Its not going to be anything big, just a little bit, just for fun.

So, ATOT, black or red?

There's no system. I love roulette more than anything at the casino's. If I play colors I usually bet $10 on red. If I don't hit I double up on the same color. If I don't hit again, double up again, same color. Eventually it'll hit the other color. Except one time, it hit black 13 god damn times in a row. I lost a few hundred.

While sound advice, poker is not a group friendly game. For instance, I'm going to the casino for NYE with my GF and a couple friends. Sure I could go be an unsocial bastard and sit by myself for a few hours and probably win a couple hundred. Or I could hang out with my friends at the much more sociable games like BJ and Craps and have a good time and maybe make or lose a couple hundred.

I'll assume OP has never taken Statistics 101.
You cannot win money at roulette. You know that 0 and double 0? You know why they dont count as any color, or as an even or odd? Or as the first half or first third? Its to fuck you out of your money and it works. It was added specifically to ruin you average ensure over the long run the house always comes out ahead.
The only game with an even halfway decent chance is Blackjack, assuming they dont reshuffle the deck and you know how to count cards. Never take insurance, never split, never double down. Again, looking at the probability you cannot win money over the long run. Those features were added to ensure they get more money from you.

I agree with your general sentiment on gambling.

But bolded is terribly wrong. Playing a proper blackjack strategy minimizes house's edge down to 2% in winnings. But through proper doubling down and splitting, you gain a 2.5% edge against the house in PAYOUT (4.5% difference).

So in effect, you NEED to double down when needed in order to barely win.

'Double Bet if you lose' won't work because:

1. Gambler's fallacy

2. Bet limits. Every table has them. If you double your bet everytime you lose, you'll reach that limit pretty fast as landing black 6-10 times in a row isn't uncommon. Once you hit the ceiling, then you're fucked. How you gonna bet $5000 from losing $2500 when the table limit is $3000? Game over. Oh, see 1. again.

They won't stop you from playing because if you are on a bad enough losing streak to hit the table max the martingale system blows up spectacularly.

Out of my entire personal experience of playing roulette for the past 13 years (twice every year at 3 to 4 days each time), I have honestly had 0 and 00 hit a grand total of 3 times.

And out of the 10 times my girlfriend has played roulette, one of them she won $400 on a 00. Clearly we should always play 00!!

To be fair, if anyone were to run to a casino based on his claims, lose their nut, and end up on the welfare line, it's probably safe to say they would have ended up there at some point anyway.
