Canon is loosing too much money in ink to generics.

That's funny because Canon has the cheapest genuine cartridges and the absolute lowest per page of any printer brand using original cartridges.

The way I see it Canon was betting on a business model where cheaper cartridges would make more people buy their printers and they would make money through volume. I guess people got greedy even with $0.02/page costs. It's different to stick it to HP with their $0.14/page cost, but Canon?

Good god do you think canon would stop selling the overpriced ink where they actually make their fat profits !!!

That will never happen !!!

You can still buy bci-21 carts.

....

Boy you are dense. How is $11.99 for a black cartridge overpriced when HP charges $32.99 for theirs? How's your $19.99 heavily subsidized printer doing?

I have a Canon i860.

Does Canon have a cd/dvd printing tray for the i860?

"and have about a third less ink"
Not at all true in that respect. New CLI-8 cartridges have the exact same 13 ml as the old cartridges. The new PGI-5 Black cartridge has 26 ml instead of 27 ml.
Nowhere near 1/3 less ink. Someone needs to go back to math class.

I've never used generics on anything other than a Lexmark, and therefore it doesn't matter much to me if the new ones have a chip. At least the new chip doesn't enforce region encoding or expiration dates like other manufactures have been known to do. Also no head to self destruct.

I would consider picking up the ip3000 if for no other reason that to try out the MICR ink cartridges available for it.

FYI, the new Chromalife 100 ink is a good reason to go with the new printers.

Wow. With no rebates? Did you know the price before? They wouldn't do that if you called the 800#?

No rebates,just close-out. The ip5000 was $250 when it came out a year ago.

ip3000 = $49.50
ip4000 = $99.50
ip5000 = $49.50

On BF, I wanted the $80 speakers that were $20 at Staples, but my local store was OOS. The store 20 miles away had them but they would not do anything as far as letting me buy and having them shipped from the other store to me or their store. I think I did speak to a mgr, but I did it over the phone though. Maybe I should have went down there. The store that had them said they had no way to ship them to me either. The 800# was OOS.

As far as a store beign able to get an item from another store, is this something they are supposed to do?

I don't think they have to, just GOOD coustomer service. You could have them put on hold till you got there to pick up. Got the printer yesterday from the other side of the state,it's really purty.

Well I tried. When I mentioned the searching the whole state thing (vs. the ones within driving distance) the mgr sounded a little ticked and said that's what he was doing. So if he was, no one had it in stock.

You dont need the roller assembly.. Its a waste of money. Just get the tray and youre all set.

i got 2 IP5000s moded for CD/DVD. One with rollers and one without.
This guide says:
The additional rollers privide downward pressure on the CD tray so it comes in contact with the large rubber feed rollers that are already in the printer. This facilitates the precise movement of the tray into and out of the printer. They also hold the tray firmly in a horizontal plane so it cannot accidentally come in contact with the print head. You can print to CD's without these additional rollers by manually pushing the tray into the printer at the beginning of the print cycle. You will have to decide whether these additional rollers add value and safety to your printing experience.

I wish I had ordered the roller when I bought some screws for my Canon camera a couple weeks ago, to save shipping. They charged me like $6 or $7 shipping for 5 tiny screws as small as (or smaller) eyeglass screws. These in a large box big enough that you could easily fit a football in it, and shipped though UPS. Kind of dumb. Made me even more mad since I left out a piece, but didn't want to paying shipping again for a tiny cheap camera part. But it the above is true about the rollers, I might get them.
