Found this somewhere...

Some racist remarks in there...so don't read if it would offend you.

"they make bushido a joke.. and of course tom cruise, the only white
guy, gets the only girl in the movie. even after he kills her husband!!
and her son, falls in love with him too, just like the little asian boy
in "Green Beret".. Japanese emperor meiji, who in real life was a
super tough monarch, who played all the western powers against each other,
eventually crushing china, korea, and Russia(destrouyed their entire
army and fleet in 1 year) in total war, is seen as a total f*g in this
white propaganda, where he allows some loser white expats to speak to him
face to face...

USA was never involved in japanese military modernization. japan
invited the french to instruct their army, britain to instruct their navy..
after 1871, germans were tapped to replace the french because they beat
napoleon III in the 1871 war. this movie is a typical anti-asian
propaganda... the rebels in real life used guns, japanese had begun using
guns in 1540's even before nobunaga!!! the rebels were led by a man who
hated westerners...

instead of concentrating on the honor, duty, respect, and selfless
loyalty of bushido, they concentrate on "saving face", "shame", and killing
themselves... it is the only way white people want to understand
asians... and the girl says, "japanese men never help me." what is that all
about??? white people never help their women back then either.. they
only helped the "ladies" of higher class... the working servant girls
were never helped! japanese court ladies were waited on, by japanese men,
just not their peasant women!!

this movie is a white fantasy. asian women go gaga over white men,

japanese men are either:
1. gay and ineffectual
2. evil and inscrutable/merciless weirdoes
3. martial arts experts with no other attributes who need white expat
losers to guide them through tough decisions

white men:
1. can equal a samurai's sword skill after just one winter of haphazard
practice, because white men are inately superior
2. any lowly white loser can embolden visionless asians to reach
greater heights (katsumoto and the emperor)
3. without white men, japan would not be the nation it would be
today....

it is the ultimate white propaganda, john.. same message as always,
from "Green Beret", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Forty Days at Peking",
"Rambo II", "Platoon", "Joy Luck Club", "Kickboxer", "Empire of the Sun",
where asian men are worhtless without white men and asian women can
never be happy unless with white men rescuing them from their asian male
oppressors!!!

i got so sick of all the people in the theater going gaga over the girl
during the movie, i almost walked out..

movies like this inspire countless white losers to seek a second chance
at life in korea and japan, where they teach english and try to sleep
with as many asian women as possible... and the asian people allow them
to do this! do not fall for their glossy racial propaganda. watch KAGEMUSHA, RAN, and HEAVEN
and EARTH for real depiction of Bushido, where white men do not exist,
except as Jesuit missionaries in KAGEMUSHA."

I myself thought the movie was excellent, like Braveheart/ Gladiator which are not accurate portrayals...i wasn't trying to analyze how historically accurate the movie was but rather enjoyed it. But it's interesting how another may see it differently. Oh and Kev, people like you are just worthless.

i think this happens to every good movie that isnt about only americans, eventually someone gets pissed sees the movie the way they want to and distort everything to match their point of view. Maybe the movie wouldnt seem like propaganda if u werent looking for propaganda

Isn't the movie saying the exact opposite? That although the relatively modern superiority of cavalry and firearms ended the age of the samurai, that was actually the far more romantic and 'civilized' age? White man defiles all that he touches, essentially.

This is what you get for letting the U.S. be at the top. Capitalization can be a good thing.

LOL I thought the movie was good, and i was mocking it so much when i saw trailers of it... seeing tom cruise as a samarai

heres something similar i read... , anyways hears another rant on angryasianman.

Okay. The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise, opens in theaters today. What can I say about this movie? I guess at this point, not too much. I'd prefer to reserve judgment until I actually see the movie for myself.

Yeah, right.

Honestly, how can I??? Given what I've seen and heard in trailers, reviews and word of mouth, how can I really go into this movie objectively? I'm sorry, there's just no way.

My gut reaction, from seeing one trailer: White man goes Japan to teach them a thing or two. But what do you know, it's actually the SAMURAI who teach HIM a thing or two. Of course, eventually white man teaches the samurai a thing or two about teaching him a thing or two. Oh, and along the way white man gets busy with a Japanese woman, and kills a bunch of Japanese guys with his newly acquired samurai sword skillz. Shogun meets Dances With Wolves, Oscar nomination, please?

See, I can gather all that just from watching the trailer! But here's a simple overview of the film, courtesy of Paolo, someone who's actually seen the film:

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING PLOT SUMMARY CONTAINS SPOILERS

1) WHITE MAN (Cruise, playing a general) slaughters a village of innocent "redmen", then, feeling guilty about his actions, looks to atone for his sins in a foreign land,

2) namely Japan. Taken captive by the samurai, he learns the Way of the Warrior, & decides he wants to be one of them. Then,

3) WM gets to live in the house of the family of the samurai leader he'd killed in battle prior to his captivity, but for some magical reason the children of the slain man take a quick liking to him. Not only that,

4) but the slain man's widow finds herself attracted to WM. To add insult to the husband's memory, the widow asks WM to wear her hubby's armor in the final climactic battle between the samurai & the emperor's army. Then,

5) WM is not only able to regain his honor on the field of battle, but also gets to enjoy the spectacle of the emperor's army falling tearfully on their knees in reverence of his heroic actions (actual scene, y'all). Oh, & in case I forget--WM is the ONLY survivor on the samurai side. Then,

6) he is able to sway the emperor away from his most trusted advisor, & to assist in the emperor's decision over the future of the land. Then, looking forward to a life of peace in the country, WM retires

7) to the village of the (now obliterated) samurai army, where he finally gets to shack up with the widow, who is overcome with joy at his return.

*spoiler*

the romance scene totally ruined the film. They should have just kept it clean and show they have mutual respect for each other. The kiss was plain ol' silly.

I really liked how the fight ended with kasumoto taking his own life and tom cruise stayed alive. Because that showed Tom cruise was still a westerner who doesn't and will never know the importance of proud.
They should have ended right there instead of going back to meiji emperor with all that crap.

Did the movie ever mentioned that it was based on a true story? If no, STFU. Lighten up man, it's just a friggin' movie and a good one too.

I agreed with Park. However as usual, nobody in the movie business goes broke by treating the US audience as moroons.

You have to understand - if this was meant to be entirely and completely true, it 1. wouldn't have been made a movie in the US and 2. it would be a documentary, not a movie. Lots of movies are not completely accurate, and everyone gets into a fuss about it, and if the movie is set in a foreign country and is revised to favor a white character it is both racist and inaccurate? Give me a break - if you want to watch a documentary about samurai you went to the wrong place.

Edit: not even just about Samurai, about mid-late 19th century Japan, you can't expect to find it at the movies.
