Last tweak of my rig, and have no idea about RAM

Currently this is my rig:

CPU:
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1793417

GPU:
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/n67w9/

I'm happy with everything (and it's stable after testing for two days) except my RAM. I've never tweaked RAM timings and not sure if I put the voltage up to 1.65 if I can change the multiplier to X10 instead of X8.

I just bought this RAM (overkill I know)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231315

Should I tweak it? Maybe try and get to 8-8-8-24 at 1.65 volts with a X10 multiplier? Will I see any real world gain?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Nah, you're not going to see any difference, especially with 16gb. probably better off just keeping the voltage down. Furthermore, since you've got 4 DIMMS, things can get even even more tricky when you start tweaking. Then again, can't hurt anything to fiddle with it if you're in a fiddlin' mood.

my advice is to keep two of those sticks for future use or maybe another rig, and go with 2 4gb dimms in your main rig. running four dimms can limit your cpu and memory overclock compared to using two dimms.

unless you are doing super intensive background things on your computer 24/7, i doubt you will even notice the difference between 8gb and 16gb. to be a bit more bold, i doubt most people can notice the jump from 4gb to 8gb.

At a 180 BCLK, you should probably be able to use the 10x multiplier with those sticks. You'd just need to up the voltage and loosen the timing.

These aren't high-end sticks, however, so there's no way in heck you'd hit 8-8-8-24 regardless of voltage...I could hit that with 1866 cas 9 sticks, but they are an entirely different product. Perhaps you were mistaken when you said you wanted to take 1600 cas 9 sticks to 1800 cas 8. You need to loosen (not tighten) the timings, and the higher the number, the less aggressive it is. You'd probably need to try 11-11-11-28, at 1.65v. You might be able to get them down to 9-10-9-27 at 1.65v, but I wouldn't start there.

ah ok, yeah I've never really played with RAM before so I was mistaken. I'm using this time to try and learn as much as I can about them.

No worries. I've always found that memory settings are one of the trickiest parts of setting up a computer. Memory compatibility with motherboards and with other sticks is always a problem, and you can also really botch up a system with bad settings, requiring a CMOS reset. Kind of scary when that happens, since the system won't POST.

By the way, memory tweaking also offers by far the least benefits of all tweaking you can do to a system (CPU overclocking, GPU overclocking, and HD/SSD tuning). But I can see the appeal for you to run your memory at 1800 versus 1440. It just looks better!

One question - is there a reason you're using a 20x BCLK multiplier rather than 21 or 22? It's forcing a pretty high BCLK, pushing you out of the typical range for your memory.

No specific reason other then some advice I got when I first overclocked the machine awhile back and haven't changed it. I have turbo off which I believe was setting my multiplier to X22 (I'll have to double check). What would you suggest?
