Friend of mine is dual but currently living in the USA. Couldn’t afford his Obamacare premiums so went without insurance. He just got out of the hospital after falling into a coma for a few months and has a 7 figure bill. Ask him where he’d rather of been? Plenty of gun clubs are under $150, and you can get membership to one for as little as $25 for legal purposes. There are lots of ranges, aside from the Toronto area. And guns are not nearly that expensive, just saw a decent S&W AR15 for under $700 CAD.
Canada has lots of guns, it’s really easy to own a semi auto mag fed rifle as most aren’t registered, yet we don’t have nearly the same rate of mass shooting. I maintain it’s more of a cultural problem than guns causing murder as someone suggested.

So your solution to incompetent police is to give more incompetent people guns in the hope that a few of those people will be competent and not overwhelmed by the incompetent and malicious ones? I think a better solution would be to improve our police force. Better training, more oversight, more personal consequences for failure.

Police are just normal jerk off civilians who have been certified through testing to follow orders and be under a certain level of intelligence (the two go hand-in-hand). I suppose that they are less capable than somebody intelligent like Paddock of killing mass numbers of people because they are dumber, but that doesn't mean they should be allowed to have military weapons. Right now US police are armed better than most middle eastern armies.
Until we can reign in military weapons amongst our lowest qualified civil servants I see zero reason why average americans shouldn't also be allowed to have them.
So what we need is less guns for the police and more guns for civilians?
