Not really, they are mostly just living out their Die Hard fantasies and their Police Commissioners are just finding ways to justify their over inflated 'War on Drugs' budget because if they don't spend all that money city councils will question why they need that large of a budget. Cops rarely ever face someone armed with anything more dangerous then a cheap Saturday night special type handgun, and for the few times when they do they already have the most powerful weapon we ever invented, the two way radio.
