He like I can certainly see the attraction that guns provide, whether as an investment opportunity, hunting (poor) animals, the "cool" factotor/ego, target practice, self defense, and killing lots of people. Those last two are the main issue regarding other humans though.

Sure, self defense is based on fear as is the concern about guns. Self defense is also partly a fear of guns. With more and more weapons, logic and fear may dictate that everyone be armed. Is that where we should go? In that world what do you think the level of gun crimes would be? Aren't we seeing this in Chicago (where there are limits on guns, but they can be so easily transported and hidden)? Is that what we want? Edit: But gun manufacturers would love it.

If they don't see violence as a way to increase sales, why do they block legislation to keep guns out of the hands of the violent (or crazy) including their support for limits on background checks, or to limit the sale of the most deadly "tactical" weapons designed for war, or big magazines, or...?
