Holy Hell man. Yes, mental health needs to be addressed of course but I happen to believe the gun problem and the mental stability problem can be worked on simultaneously.
The constitution removes a felons right to vote and I believe that their intent here should also be implied to other areas where a person has proven themselves unfit to hold those rights.
n fact, why don't we get rid of guns while we sort out American insanity?
Not no but hell no! Many of my neighbors legally own guns and nothing illegal occurs around them just as it is in the majority of places. The mental health part of gun ownership needs to be addressed to prevent psychopaths from acquiring them legally and the NRA has been a tremendous impedance to accomplishing this.

Are resources unlimited in the world you live in? We burn a LOT of political capital chasing gun control measures, when that time and effort could be put toward something that might actually take effect.

To be clear: I do not think that the current political or social climate within the United States will permit meaningful discussion on gun control, nor do I think meaningful gun control will come to pass. Hence my concern with continuing to beat our head against it, rather than 'getting shit done' elsewhere.

All able-bodied people eligible by law for military service, being necessary to the security of a free nation, the right of the people to keep and bear any weapons and ammunition, shall not be infringed.
So folks on medical discharge can't own guns? Bad knee? Vets missing limbs? And any weapons?

It's interesting then, that you see the lethal toy as the problem, and not the mental health of those interested in it. Do you retain the same regard for any other toys, lethal or otherwise? Hoarders, purchasers of disused bomb shelters, end-of-world preppers?

Interesting that you keep on diverting. None of those things kill other people, nor were they designed for that purpose.

OTOH, perhaps you can suggest some sort of therapy for military firearms fetishists. Explain how they can be reached & rehabilitated.

And it's interesting that you keep hammering in a direction that clearly isn't going to go anywhere in the US, while disregarding potential avenues that might as 'diverting'.

I think extreme hoarders/fetishists (tons o' guns, end of world guys) are probably in serious need of some kind of intervention the way any hoarder would, with specific focus on why they think they're necessary. I think some kind of program should be set up to look into why Americans, as a whole, have a desire to retain weapons in their home/on their person, what causes that to persist, what could be done to alleviate it, whether or not it should be alleviated, etc.

There should absolutely be an 'outreach' program to many of our citizens who have any kind of mental issues/quirks that might cause them to snap, regardless of weapons that may or may not be used.

Heh. In the mind of a raving gun nut, "outreach" just means that Big Brother is out to... grab their guns, obviously.

I'd prefer teaching psychology to kids over gun training.

lets bottom line this.

many suggestions have been put by gun owners.
in the eyes of anti-2a's its not enough.
therefore gun owners are nuts and all guns must go.

this is the reason gun owners get defensive. if we give up anything you always want more.
it wont end until all guns are outlawed, and confiscated.

hunting season is coming up. gotta get things ready.
paper will be punched. small furry things will be eaten.

have a good weekend

Probably so, right now. The narrative needs to change both on ownership of firearms, and on the government's role in the lives of its citizens. Right now I have issues trusting the govt to manage itself, much less elements of my own life...

Oh please what suggestions and which one of them are a different idea than what we've been doing.

Now London has yet another incident where a person resorts to running over people with a vehicle. This is what happens in societies where the guns have been taken away but the violence in men's minds remains and no amount of legislation will ever change this.

And the last terrorist that was going to use a car or truck that was stopped by a handsome, well armed, well trained good ole boy occurred when?
The reason they use cars & trucks is because they can't get guns.

Because a certain segment of Americans are pansy-ass, paranoid, sniveling, frightened little bi*ches. The Constitution did not take in to consideration that innovation would bring about the kinds of guns that the NRA keeps assuring the fu*kwits are protected under it's umbrella. It is purely asinine to suggest it is a person's right to possess weapons of war. Stop being a tool.
Stop being so ignorant.

Everyone's ignorant.
Just on different subjects.

Yul Brenner said that.
I like Yul Brynner, he was great in "The King and I" and freaking awesome in "The Magnificent Seven". The fact that he was Russian born and became a great American is a tribute to our immigration policy.

You don't think that concept is embedded in some of the minds of sick Americans? Or that the occurrences aren't on the rise in the US? If you recall, we've had it happen as well. That was not a valid point to make. It was downright absurd actually. There is no gun shortage to blame in America.
