I seriously do not see this happening. The 580 would have to be >200W TDP card before you can think of putting 2 of them on one PCB under 300W.

GTX295 used underclocked 275 (a >200W card) cores, 5970 uses underclocked 5870 (again >200W card) cores.

WHy not 2 gtx570's?

T2K, off with the red shades. However unfortunately, AT handy dandy little GPU bench shows the 5970 as being around 25-35% faster than the 5870. We admit the 5970 is faster than the 580, oh lets say 7%? Sounds fair? Maybe 5%? In any event, its a bit of a problem when when the 580 is faster than the 5970 is over the 5870. All said and done though its 20-25% overall is what i saw. Should be more with drivers and DX11. And quit crying about "Nvidia Crippled" games...its called Nvidia bought them off, got the coding, made it run faster on their cards more or less. If its legal, its AMD's fault for not doing it too. Saying a card is a TWIMTBP game is different from blaming Nvidia for it.

I'm surprised this guy is still spewing nonsense, maybe if he could step back and re-read what he has been blabbing on here he would see his true colors.

And LOL at handicapped games.

Cant see his posts now as using ignore, however his best post was yesterday, 5850 @1000 core and OC i7 using 230w...LOL

The AMD fans here need to cool it a little.
GTX580 looks to be a pretty good part.
It's fast, not too hot,ok on power use and damn quiet for its performance.
It's pointless slagging an obviously good card...save your venom for something that deserves it.

I'd ignore him but it is just too funny to read. Now Nvidia is handicapping games for AMD. Poor AMD, can never get a break lol

Does anyone remember this pic

They look just like Barts and the latest 6970 pics we saw. If the had functioning cards back then, I seriously doubt anything is delayed.

They have even newer Cayman photos now:

http://it-chuiko.com/computers/7033-yetalonnyj-dizajn-amd-radeon-hd-6970-cayman-xt-na.html

I've said it repeatedly that hardware is unlikely the reason for a delay, if there is a delay. Driver/BIOS issues causing a delay is more believable to me, since Cayman has a new shader setup (4D, not 5D). I'm still expecting a launch on or before Nov. 30 but I'm guessing a ~33% chance of a launch later than that.

I doubt there is any delays... rumored launch date was always around the 22th... a week or so from now we ll probably see review sites receive cards.

Ditto. It's a nice piece of hardware.

Do you think anyone cares who you have on ignore or not? This isn't a popularity contest, nor do we care about your "NA NA NA I can't hear you!" with your palms over your ears, 5 year old attitude. LOL!!!!

I'm not certain how anyone can claim a delay unless AMD themselves stated when the product would be released. You don't get to claim a delay from some 3rd party source that claims they heard X Y and Z about release dates.

The 580 is 500 bucks. Is that worth it? That's your call (yes, you). It's the fastest single GPU card out there right now, and you have no choice but to pay the price premium if you want that performance. I don't think anyone in their right mind can say that it isn't a decent/good improvement over the 480. It is, objectively (measurably) so. If you don't think it's worth the price, don't buy it. Simple, no?

Wow, can you all just reel it in a bit. :|

Lets just face it, this is a great time to be into video cards. Both venders have some great choices so if your stuck on one vender times are good. If your not then times are even better.

If you all spent more time actually talking about the cards rather than trying to score silly points over each other this place would be a lot more pleasant.

Anyway back on topic (ish).

Anyone think that AMD are making life difficult for themselves having two sets of architecture running at the same time?
Will the 69x0's need significantly different drivers to the 68x0's?

Obviously AMD think its worth it, but given that they like to have a new set of drivers out every month it seems like a big ask for the driver teams.

Not only that but he's apparently unable to understand or simply remember (smoking some strong stuff?) that I had nothing to do with those OC-watt-whatever claims he's keep bringing up... talk about being facts-challenged..

Well, I'm not particularly impressed as it's only ~15-20% faster than my year-old 5870 - that's a pretty lame improvent in a year but of course, I understand that NV had to cook from whatever was in the house and Fermi was an utter design disaster in first place.

That was loooong time ago, it's pretty much the other way around now.
AMD got the market leading position for almost a year, grabbed most of the market share, CPU arm also moved back to black while NV stumbled multiple times during the past year - one more flop and revenues will really start dwindle down, making it even harder to get money to cover the necessary astronomical R&D costs.

One thing you guys need to remember it Nvidia is a profitable Company, AMD is not.

They still operate under massive debt and in the red.

If anyone is allowed to fail and still survive it would be Nvidia not AMD they have way more cash in hand!

When Nvidia starts producing CPUs then we can make that comparison regarding profitability. Apples to apples, right?

What does it matter what you produce its either you make money and your business survives or you don't and eventually fail.

Nvidia as we know them now will never produce any X86 cpu's as intel will not grant them a license.

That's a useless counterfactual. Aside from fanboys/zealots I think we can say with certainty that Nvidia and AMD are going to be around for the next while.

AMD has, last I heard, about 85% of the DX11 market. They are doing something right with graphics cards, at least. And there's nothing your posts can do about that, sorry.
