Update...

We ended up getting a 2014 Q7 TDI. After test driving the gas engine and the TDI back to back, it was too hard to pass up on the torque of the TDI. Made this huge, heavy SUV almost feel light on its feet.

Car is great otherwise. Only 35k miles on the clock, so still feels new and has a year of warranty left. Checked before buying that we could fit 3 car seats (two in the way back) and 4 additional people in the car. No issues. Should be a terrific long haul vehicle.

Update: Accidentally mixed up mileage with other gas Q7 we were test driving.

Congrats!! I have a 2015 Q7 with the 3.0T, and regret not getting a TDI. I love it though, and will keep it until the 2018 comes out.

Gracias. We are certainly enjoying it and I don't think I'll get tired of that engine anytime soon. All that torque makes it feel much more nimble than it has a right to be.

Feel free to hit me up when you get around to it. I am interested as well how it will hold up overtime. So far we are really enjoying.

Great choice, we love our 16 SQ5. Fun little rocket ship.

The Q7 is reminding us how much we missed our A4. Very confidence inspiring on the road. Interior is great and the seats work really well for my wife and I (I know how much seats can be subjective). Even though it is technically larger than the 4Runner, it looks and drives much smaller and my wife is really digging that.

Congrats! I just traded in my 2014 Q5 3.0T for a 2017 SQ5 Dynamic Edition (loaded last-year model in Canada...).

Also test drove the new 2018 Q5 2.0T. Was a nice drive with more gadgets than the outgoing model, but couldn't pass the deal on the S.

Thanks. My wife and I would love to be driving a Q5, but kids dictate the ride these days. The supercharged engine is fantastic.

This TDI engine is a beast. Got 34mpg on a relatively flat highway jaunt and had no problem getting 25mpg on a drive to and from a trailhead 45 mins into the mountains. All that with plenty of oomph to make it go.

Of course the first service will cost more than I spent on my 4Runner the whole time I ran it (75k), and we will see what happens when VW comes out with their emissions fix for this vehicle and how it affects performance/mileage.

you should checkout audicare, for most cars it ends up being MUCH cheaper (for my r8 for example, the 35k service alone is ~3-4k similarly with my better half's S3)

going here it appears for your car it is around 900 bucks (it's a little confusing for the higher mileage cars)
this is their brochure that explains the services for 2014's

just something to think about ... the person before me purchased Audicare for my R8, and it has been nothing short of amazing the things they cover for maintenance

I actually had it on our old A4 and it was convenient/seemed to actually provide value vs. a la carte. Didn't realize you could purchase on a used vehicle...will have to look into it a bit more.

You said only 24K on the car but the picture shows 35K. Please don't tell me you drove 10K miles in less than 10 days

Thanks, you are correct...I did not drive 10k on a week. When I wrote that, I mixed up mileage with the gas Q7 we also were also considering. Updating original post where I made mistake.

On a side note, I got 35.6 mpg when I took the car to work again this week (no pic this time). Will be heading up to the mountains this weekend for the first time since purchasing...so interested how the mileage will be climbing the mountains. It now has crossbars on it and will have a cargo box, so that will not help at all.

So after owning the Q7 for two weeks...here are my first impressions (note that some of these impressions are somewhat in comparison to our 4Runner since that was our last vehicle):

Pros:
1) Build quality is superb (as would be expected for a vehicle that had an MSRP of $62k)
2) MPG is incredible. Averaged just over 27mpg for our mountain trip (there and back and the driving while up there ~500miles). That was with a skybox and crossbars installed the whole time. I took it to work again yesterday and managed 37.8mpg on my commute home (see pic). This is a nearly 5500lb AWD vehicle. We didn't buy it for the mileage, but it has been the icing on the cake.
3) 406 ft/lb makes this vehicle feel much sprightlier around town than it has the right to be. Forced induction is a huge boon at elevation.
3) handling/steering feel is phenomenal in relation to other vehicles its size (no, it is not a Miata). Have way more confidence on mountain roads.
4) Tech is great. Bose speakers are better than I was expecting (although are not as good as the B&O speakers from previous Audi).
5) Seating is very comfortable. For whatever reason, Audi seats fit my wife and I well. Probably part of the reason we have been Audi fans. When we switched from an Audi to the 4Runner, we remember not liking the 4Runner seats after long trips...and our trip to the mountains last weekend backed that up as we had zero seat fatigue after our first road trip with the Q7.
6) People space is a huge improvement vs. the 4Runner (although falls short of something like a Honda Pilot). Storage space is actually worse than 4Runner due to high shelf and sloping design (even though length makes up for it a bit).

Cons:
1) There is more turbo lag than I would like. It is way better than the lag in my friends X5 diesel, but it is still there. I am getting used to it though and it is becoming less and less of a complaint.
2) Engine runs out of breath at high speeds. So high speed passing maneuvers are not nearly as punchy as pulling from a start or lower speeds. Minor gripe though as it spanks the 4Runner in the mountain 99% of the time even though it is 600lb heavier.
3) ride is a bit stiff for the terrible roads that we have in Colorado. I imagine off-roading in this thing will definitely be less enjoyable from a comfort perspective (the 4Runner swallowed nasty stuff quite well).

Random comment...this thing was not specced with the tow package...so no hitch...ON A DIESEL. Are you kidding? Should just come standard with Diesel version of this vehicle. Called up local dealer and they wanted $1900 to Install OEM hitch/control module. Haha...yeah right. Bought setup for $840 on Amazon w/ shipping and have it waiting in my garage to install. That is still a bit much for a hitch...but that is what you expect from an Audi OEM part.

Installed the OEM trailer hitch and trailer control module over the weekend. Took longer than I anticipated, but a fairly straightforward install and VAG-COM reprogram.

Still getting ridiculous mpg...not complaining about that. Will be interesting if whatever software reprogramming they do to "fix" the car will do for mpg or performance.

Tires were on the "full load" pressure (44). Adjusted to normal recommendation of 35 and ride has smoothed out considerably.

Well I signed up on VW's claims website and it looks like I will be getting back 8.4K in restitution for my vehicle (only option at the moment for my model year if I understand it right). I'm not sure if this includes the 1.5k from Bosch or not. The kick is that the "fix" still has to be approved. The fix is not "supposed" to result in a loss of performance/mpg according to the conditions of the settlement...but I have a feeling that just won't be true. If the fix is not approved, then they will have to offer us a buyback option.

so what will you do? seems like you're pretty happy with the car. i think most TDI owners are. unless i bought the thing brand new, i'd probably opt for the cash.

Doesn't CO have fairly strict emissions laws? If so you may not have the option to continue driving the vehicle without the fix (when one is available).

According to a Jalopnik article I read, the proposed buyout is somewhere between 57-65k for the car. Since the car MSRP'ed for 62k, I imagine my number is on the low end of that.

We like the car a lot, but I think we would be financially stupid not to take that as we would be making nearly 20k on the deal (of course you could already argue we are financially stupid to purchase a luxury CUV to begin with).

That being said, we will be more than happy if they successfully fix the vehicle with no ill effects. We will know by late Oct. technically they could ask for an extension up to 3 months in getting a fix approved...but will owe me an extra $500 for each month delayed. So take your time VW.

If we do end up with the buyout, it is very likely we would but a used 2017 Q7.

They do have emission checks tied to registration. If they offer a buyout...we will likely take it even though we will be sad to see it go.

I'd say plenty but that's misleading.

Lancer (not Evo), Mirage, Outlander, & Outlander Sport. I think that's it?

EDIT: Apparently they're still selling the MY2015 Evolution? They can do that?
