Bookmark your guy when you are in his cell, then just go through that way. Or just go to the maine page: http://mybrute.com/ and type your brute's name in the box at the bottom and get to him that way.

Your character at some point in the fight may or may not equip the sword. He also might throw it, which then makes it unusable for the rest of the turn. Pets on the other hand are automatically in use at the beginning of the turn. They not only do damage but also take damage for you. I avoid all fights with people who have pets and really want one of my own. Also keep an eye out for the thief ability. As soon as you equip a weapon and use it once, the thief will still it from you and use it on you.
