A UK business customer will be able to claim the VAT back, which is historically why computer stuff is generally priced ex VAT.Originally posted by: Idontcare
My point is just that no one in the UK is ordering those 920's and paying less than 259GBP (plus shipping) from that specific pre-order store so it is kinda pointless of the webstore to post the price as 219GBP.

With the limit of 1.65v, what do you guys think will be faster, higher frequency and latency or lower frequency and lower timing?
Example...
DDR3 at 1066, 7-7-7-20 vs DDR3 at 1333, 9-9-9-24
What do you guys think?
PS
From what I recall AMD's onboard memory controller preferred lower timing over higher freqency...

According to Foxconn, all the way upto 1.8 volts should be safe and Asus claims anything above 1.70 volts is risky. I hope I won't have any problems with my RAM which is rated at 1333MHz @ 7-7-7-20@ 1.70volts...

or, you could just keep inching up the volts until your cpu fries...helping the rest of us! take one for the TeAm!

Core i7 might released next week.
http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=589
We tried two other sources but they too were skeptical about the mid-October launch date. These two sources are privy to Intel's planned launch and they claimed that it will either be in the second or third week of November. Both sources say that the final launch date has yet to be determined but it will most likely be in third week, rather than the second week.
We went back to our original source with the new information we obtained. Our source reasserted that the information relayed to us was exactly what they were told by their HQ and Intel representative just last month. It is possible that they were only told to prepare for an early launch so that there would be ready stocks of motherboards and processors by launch day.

Have to say, at those prices I'm glad I didn't wait.
I know a ton of people who felt that way once the hype over skulltrail faded and the prices and practicality finally started to settle in. (myself included)
8 threads at 4GHz with 12GB of DDR3-1600 sound downright sexy and god-like...but the sticker shock followed by the questions of "just how practical is this?" is going to be a real downer in my opinion.
I think many folks are going to be excited to read about nehalem, and will live vicariously thru their forum friends who do buy one, but then they are going to look at the price/performance ratio relative to a DDR2-based Deneb or penryn based system and they are going to buy such a system and spend a little extra on their video card.

8 threads at 3Ghz and 3GB ram sounds good too, and a lot more affordable...
Still I figured it would break down like this:
Mobo - $250-350
Chip - $550 (3Ghz one)
3GB DDR3 - $150?
T = $950-$1050 (zoinks!)
For well under $350 I got the system below which certainly performs more than adequately and probably similar to the above system with common single/dual threaded apps.
When the i7 prices drop to about the same level (a year, maybe more) I can indulge then and still have saved a couple hundred dineros (not to mention early-adoptor hassles, not that I really expect many).

Anyway, my choice is set on Core i7 and the whole purpose of this thread was to get news about it, not speculate how inferior it will be price/performance wise.
