You paid for rush shipping on backordered parts?

Congrats though, your pair of i7's cost less than my crappy old space-heater B3 stepping QX6700 but they'll be at least 2x if not 3x faster in multi-threaded apps. Amazing.

What mobo you going with?

I didn't want to risk losing money on Newegg since they usually overprice Extreme Edition processors by $200-300 in the first couple weeks. $1087 is the best deal I'm going to find on the net, and if I manage to find someone selling on eBay for $999 (though very rare), then all I have to do is cancel my order.

And I'm going with the EVGA X58.

According to Intel, they recommend that you use DDR3 memory with a voltage of no more than 1.65v

However, many overclocking websites are reporting that it's fine to use 1.8v memory if the user knows how to properly adjust QPI voltage in the BIOS.

I believe it, but why doesn't Intel just tell people to do the same instead of telling them to avoid going over 1.65 Vdimm? Not worth the hassle I suppose in dealing with the 3 folks out of every 100 that still screw it up.

Five more days until it comes to NewEgg. Man, I can't wait any longer! What's interesting is that the monitor is the most difficult and annoying part of my build. I want a 24" but they're overpriced and the resolution is too high. I can settle for a 20" but stores don't carry them, they just carry the 22" which has larger dot pitch. I can't order online because of the return policy, so basically I'm left with Sam's Club as Best Buy has a horrible selection.

two words: Black Friday!

srsly, if you go to any major retail consumer electronics store (BestBuy, Circuit City, Fry's), they are guaranteed to have 22" monitors for $199. If they did it last year, they can do it again.

By the way, why are you buying your Core i7 from Newegg? I mean, I really wanted to, but I know based on experience that they overprice launch day CPUs by more than $90 bucks on average ($350 on the QX9650 at launch ). I bought my i7 965 from computerbrain.com, as they had the cheapest preorder prices and, presumably, the cheapest launch day prices.

I don't want a 22 inch monitor. The dot pitch is too large. Sam's released their BF ad and no monitors were on sale. That leaves me with Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Best Buy has mostly 19" and 22" monitors. Go figure, they have the monitors that are 2" bigger and have the same resolution. I was really hoping that this BF would be good but I'm not sure anymore.

I never buy things earlier than the release date because stores charge more so you can get it earlier. I also want compare prices and see the deals/bundles that will appear on launch day. It is rumored Nvidia's GTX 270 & 290 will release with Core i7. Also I'm not sure if this is official but Intel said prices would be lower on the release date than on the pre-orders. Besides, I've been waiting for such a long time that 5 days won't hurt.

Best Buy slashes forecast on consumer slowdown

Intel: Quarterly results to be 'below expectations'

Intel said in a statement that its "revenue is being affected by significantly weaker than expected demand in all geographies and market segments." The company added that, "In addition, the PC supply chain is aggressively reducing component inventories."

I have a feeling you are soooo right!

Unfortunately I also have a feeling that Q1 payroll numbers and layoffs are going to be nightmarish.

thats funny, the CSI voltage has nothing to do with the DDR links. could be just a placebo.

Lot of irrelevant posts to have to look through....but it looks like Monday MIGHT be the ship/release date? Lots of places on the net have them listed already, as some of you have already placed your orders. But even the better known sites are showing them. Fry's. Zipzoomfly. and others. Motherboards are released and shipped. Still can't find any friggin decent coolers though....not in my price range anyway. Anyway, looking forward to retiring my P4 3.06Ghz this Thanksgiving!

Be strong, remember success requires you to read thru many failed posts without losing enthusiasm.

Embargo on sales officially ends Nov 16 at midnite somewhere (west coast is it?) so in general Nov 17 is your day to be looking around.

Although you can apparently buy the 920's at tank guys already and they will ship them same day.

Microcenter will have the i920 and i965 available on the 16th along with the Intel, Asus, and Gigabyte boards.

Here in Japan, they had a launch party last night at 10:30 p.m. (the 15th). Gonna drop by the shops tomorrow to see what's up, so far the price gouging doesn't seem too bad...
