I also find it odd. It is supposed to come out in a month or two and we don't have a release date on it. I was hoping for any kind of information on the release date whether it's official or not.

I could care less about which motherboard I use since I don't overclock. I hope Fry's has their mobo/cpu combo for Core i7 soon.

i'd say you'll have one in your hands within the next 45 days. I did this when the E8400 C0 was to be officially released Jan. 20th 2008. I had a big thread going in the hotdeals section and found people shipping it on the night of the 13th of January. People were playing with and overclocking them over that weekend of the 18/19th.
You'll see your beloved nehalem in 45 days or less, IMO.

a few guys over at XS said that they expect the NDA to be lifted in October, but what's funny is that the date for lifting the NDA on the release date is still NDA
welcome to the world of NDA

Formally that is how it's done. They never pre-announce or pre-release.
Things get leaked because retailers start getting stock inhouse ahead of the release date of course, so eventually some inventory guy working at Fry's starts talking to his buddies on a forum and then most people who care to know end up knowing when the official release date is going to be.
This is why the lift-date for NDA's are under NDA, as knowing the lift-date for the NDA is tantamount to telling you the release date (which is under NDA) so the NDA expiration date is a secret too.
But if you are looking for Intel to tell Anand to tell us loyal readers that Nehalem is going to be released on Nov 10 then you will be dissapointed.

I find it odd that they released penryn with just QX9650, but they're rolling out nehalem with a couple of bridesmaids. This seems very odd to me, hopefully it's b/c amd is going to be a little bit more competitive than most of us think.

I thought those landing pads on the top surface (IHS side) were supposed to be absent from retail samples.
More ES's?

Also in the same post in which that guy states release date (month really) is oct 2008 he also says that DDR3-1333 is supported, which is in contradiction to a lot of fud/inquirer style articles lately.

This part is easy - its the supply chain that drove this requirement.
Mobo makers aren't going to create x58 boards to be sold to the exclusive few who will buy $1k i7 965's.
Intel had to sweeten the deal, i.e. convince the mob makers that there would be volume buyers out there for Bloomfield and that requires sub-$500 Nehalems at launch.
QX9650 was different because a mobo manufactured to support QX9650 could be sold to a E8400 customer just as easily.
Asus, Gigabyte, DFI...they all got a limited consumer market (volume wise) for their X58 Nehalem mobo's this fall and you can bet they required Intel do something to at least give them confidence they have a shot at selling enough motherboards to recoup their costs.
He didn't blur out the codes? Uh-oh.Originally posted by: Idontcare

The HSF combo looks smaller than the one from my QX9650 though.

The launch should take a place between 10th and 14th of November and we've learned that the Japanese part of Intel might get a green light to start selling its units a bit earlier.

Well we are finally seeing the FUDzilla type articles now on i7 launch date:
